Eurowhat?Sunday May 18th 2008 This week my feature across the FOUR hours (yes resident gardener Andrew was away so it meant that Breakfast turned to almost Brunch) anyway where was I? ……….. Oh yes I featured music from the Eurovision (winners mostly!). The Reason?? Well during extensive research for the programme…I discovered that the Eurovision takes place in Belgrade on the 24th May 2008 at 9pm. Forty three countries are represented (Is Europe really that big now ??) and because of this there are two semi-finals one on Tuesday 20th and another on Thursday 22nd. I don’t believe these are widely broadcast although I may be open to correction by some of our Euro neighbours. Lots more information can be found at www.eurovision.tv .Any way the songs from Euroland Past were Hold Me Now Johnny Logan (Ireland 1987) L’oiseau et l’enfant Marie Miriam (France 1977) Flying the Flag Scooch (UK 2007) A Ban Ni Bi Izhar Cohen & Alpha Beta (Israel 1978) Making your mind up Bucks Fizz (UK 1980) Waterloo Abba (Sweden 1974) Ding a Dong Teach In (Netherlands) Best of luck to our very own Andy Abraham for Saturday Night!!!!!!!! Essential Classics 7.30 I played España composed by Emmanuel Chabrier in 1883 following several months spent in Spain the prior year. Today, it remains his most popular work. He was born in Ambert (Puy-de-Dome), a town in the Auvergne region of central France. He began his music lessons at age six. Between 8.00 and actually 9.30 this week I dipped into the local papers with stories from Brentwood , Billericay and the surrounding areas. 8.30 Featured the Golden Year The tunes were: Is this the way to Amarillo? Tony Christie Let Me Love You Mario Beautiful James Blunt A nd a Random selection of clues……. March 19 Wales beat Ireland 32 - 20 to win their first Grand Slam since 1978 in Rugby Union's Six Nations tournament April MG Rover, the UK's sole remaining automotive mass-production facility, goes into receivership after a planned alliance with Chinese manufacturer, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation collapses. March 26 - The BBC series, Doctor Who makes its return after 16 years July 6 - The International Olympic Committe awards the 2012 Summer Olympics to London. Of course you guessed the year was 2005!!!! 9am I played Patti Paige singing Old Cape Cod followed swiftly by Groove Armada and At the River this being the Musical Changing Rooms Feature for this week. I also looked variously at the National Sunday papers and events happening in our area. Four hours never went so quick !!!!! then it was time for Rachel. Bank Holiday Weekend’s coming up and Sunday Breakfast is back right in the middle of it all on Sunday of course ! Join me from 7 to 10 only on Phoenix98fm. See you soon……..Remember to cheer for Andy!!!!! What? Eurovision innit! Oh Yeah!!!!!! Byeeeee!
