At one of the busiest weekends for British sport, the rain held off for the women's final at Wimbledon, with us bringing news of the match in the closing stages as Venus Williams beat her younger sister 7-5  6-4. We then kept an eye on the scores as Britain's Laura Robson won the Wimbledon girls' title at the age of 14, a remarkable achievement as the event is open to players aged up to 18 years old.

With the British Grand Prix qualifying, the news that Heikki Kovalainen claimed his first ever pole position with the Red Bull of Mark Webber in second place. Lewis Hamilton was on the second row in fourth position.

Locally, Essex were well on their way to beating Yorkshire in the Friends Provident Trophy semi-final at chelmsford as we provided updates throughout the show. Essex eventually securing a place in the final after an 87 run victory at Chelmsford. The final is on 16 August against Kent.

All the latest featuring local cricket sides in the Shepherd Neame and T Rippon leagues was also featured, including Brentwood's draw against high-flyers Wanstead and Billericay's win against Old Parkonians.

With the Olympics less than five weeks away we examined the chances for Team GB as the UK Sport predict the best boycott-free medal performance for nearly a hundred years, targeting an 8th place finish overall in the Olympic Medal Table. We also covered the ongoing saga of the mountain biking event for 2012 as Weald Park has been dropped from the event for not being hilly enough.

We also brought news of local success at the Yushikai Karate Academy in Billericay, gaining belt promotions just a few weeks before moving to new training facilities in Radford Cresent. There was more news on the Leopards Basketball team before they move back to the Brentwood Centre. The recent success of Lakeside Hammers and Brentwood Superbike rider Andy Weymouth were featured in our local news round up.

All the latest news from Brentwood Town and Billericay Town FC was covered as most of the fixtures have been announced for the next season and pre-season training is well underway. Brentwood travel to Hatfield Peverel on Saturday to play the first of their friendlies, with Billericay playing a West Ham select XI on the 19th.

Dan Westram kept us up to date with the goings-on at Southend and West Ham during the close season, along with the considering saga of keeping and signing players at premiership clubs, featuring the continual rumours on who will be Christiano Ronaldo's employer for next year.
