New Beds,Sheets and Ida!!!Sunday 3rd August 2008 Following the news at 7am on this Sunday I started with Little Jackie and The World Should Revolve Around Me and having discussed whether August was now part of Autumn….the weather being rubbish again you see, I proceeded with today’s featured artist. This was Ida Maria and he new CD which is called Fortress Round my Heart. Her current single entered the UK Top 40 last week at number 11. The tunes I played were Stella Queen of the World I Like You So Much Better When You’re Naked (This is the current single ) Morning Light The NME said of her “she’s the midpoint between the Strokes and MS Winehouse” Whilst Sunday Times Culture described this as “a remarkable debut album” All in all good stuff ! Some of the headlines were these Green Belt Under Threat Billericay and Wickford Gazette Youths Beat Up Taxi Driver Brentwood Weekly News Young Drink Drivers on Rise Essex Enquirer Mayor Tees Of Fund Raising Efforts Brentwood, Billericay and Havering Recorder Cinema Plans The Final Cut Brentwood Gazette Fratellis Old Black and Blue Eyes Orson Happiness Gabriella Cilmi Sweet about me ` The Darkness I believe in a thing called love At 8.30 I did Essential…….and this week for two reasons I did Essential France…..bonjour!!!!!!!!
The first reason is that next week I am going there on holiday and the second that the papers this week appear to have been full of stories about the French President Monsieur Sarkozy but maybe even more importantly his other half Mrs Sarkozy (formerly known as Carla Bruni. It is possible that our own Heathcliffe could learn a thing or two from these two. Anyway amidst speculation about Carlas (allegedly) chequered past I played TWO songs. These were… Chambre Avec Vue Henri Salvador Quelqu’n m’a dit Carla Bruni This is the title track from Ms Brunis’ 2003 album . At 9am I did The Golden Year Tunes this week were RAH Band Clouds Across The Moon Talking Heads Road to Nowhere Paul Hardcastle 19 Random Clues included Ruth Lawrence, 13, achieves a first in mathematics at Oxford University, becoming the youngest British person ever to earn a first-class degree and the youngest known graduate of Oxford University. British Telecom announces it is going to phase out its famous red telephone boxes Coca-Cola changes its formula and releases New Coke. (The response is overwhelmingly negative, and the original formula is back on the market in less than 3 months.) Live Aid pop concerts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and London raise over £50 million for famine relief in Ethiopia And the Year Was Of Course………………………………………………………………………………………. 1 9 8 5 MacAlmont & Butler Yes The Kooks Shine On Craig David 6 of 1 The Rileys Baby Blue The Mystery Jets Half in Love with Elizabeth James Blunt I really want you Martha and the Muffins Echo Beach Anyway as I was casting about looking for a new target for a Top Twenty Show I noticed that the Batchelors are back in the Top 40 Albums….and quite high up too……WHAT!!!!! So My next Top 20 Show……incredible (yes incredible that they should have been) hits by the Batchelors…………Perhaps this is something I need to consider in more detail during my Gallic Sojourn……Watch this space…..And See You in Two weeks!!!!!!
