Mulholland Drive, Glasvegas,Sukiyaki.......mmm....US Election?Sunday 24th August 2008 Sam Sparro and 21st Century Life started todays' Sunday Breakfast then I featured the first of three tracks by Glasvegas. This was out today to download although it had been previously released as a limited edition on vinyl managing to wind me up when I attempted to buy a copy on e-Bay and encountered one of those situations where the price just keeps going up. What’s that about? I gave up. But not on Glasvegas. So the tracks I featured from Glasvegas (yes they’ve now been in the NME and that bastion of musical progressiveness The Guardian Guide) were Daddys Gone Geraldine (Acoustic Version) Everyones Got To Learn Sometime Little Jackie The World Should Revolve Around Me Maroon 5 Makes Me Wonder Cheryl Crow Sweet Child Of Mine 7.30 Saw Lounge Lizards and featured an all female line up for the first time. They were Karen Chandler Hold Me , Thrill Me, Kiss Me Billie Holliday Stormy Weather Captain Echoes of Fashion The Caesars Jerk it Out Katy Perry I kissed a girl At 7.50 having forgotten to bring the fanfare or even a drum to roll I nonetheless announced to an expectant listener that on 25th October I shall once again be entering that Bear Pit that is The Top Twenty Show. This time I’m playing The Stereophonics. They’re from Wales. I know a bit about them but little about Wales having only ever passed through it to catch a boat. Lots of sheep and great scenery, my only difficulty being the unpronounceable place-names with multitudinous llll’s which don’t sound like l’s at all. So it could be a struggle to do the bands biographies. If you can help feel free to volunteer at radio@phoenixfm.com. Any to kick things off as it were I played Mr Writer. Don’t forget to vote for your Top 10 Stereophonics Tracks at www.phoenixfm.com and follow the Top 20 Link. The first hour ended with The Buzzcocks and Ever Fallen in Love. Between 8 and 9 I reviewed the local weekly papers although MOAN some still appear to be on holiday? The headlines from those present were Brentwood Weekly News Brentwoods Olympic Plans Billericay and Wickford Gazette Dental Care Crisis Hope Essex enquirer 10 Residents losing homes everyday Brentwood Gazette Knife thugs Menace Das Pop Going Underground Hue and Cry The Last Stop Ce ce penniston Finally Glasvegas Geraldine (Acoustic version) Jason Mraz Make it mine At 8.30 Essential saw these songs featured Linda Scott I've told every little star (from the David Lynch Movie Mulholland Drive) Kyu Sakamoto Sukiyaki (The Only Japanese song to ever top the US charts!) So Essential 60’s it was James Blunt You're Beautiful The script The man who could not be moved Coldplay Viva La Vida At 9.00 I did The Golden Year The Tunes Were The Cure Letter For Elise Carter USM The only living boy in New Cross Shanice I love your smile And Random Clues April 20 - The Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, held at Wembley Stadium, is televised live to over 1 billion people and raises millions of dollars for AIDS research November 24 - Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom describes this year as an Annus Horribilis (horrible year), due to various scandals damaging the image of the Royal Family, as well as the Windsor Castle fire November 3 - U.S. presidential election, Bill Clinton defeats incumbent U.S. President George H.W. Bush and businessman H. Ross Perot. And the year of course was 1992 Glasvegas Everyones got to learn sometime Paul Weller All I want to do Hard Fi Can't get along without you The Killers Romeo and Juliet Kooks Shine On Easyworld Til the Day Then as Andrew is still on his holidays it was time for Brownie.....and I closed with something lively whos name eludes me now.....it is Friday after all....anyway see you Sunday 7am...till then enjoy!
