'Drive' Week Roundup 01/09/08-05/09/08

A few things to tell you about this week on 'Drive' in association with Mizu Noodle Bar, Brook Street, Brentwood.

 Matt Weedon

#1 of two guests I had on my show this week was Matt Weedon (grandson of 1950's guitar legend, Bert Weedon) who is part of exciting four piece 'Paper Heroes.' The boys who are all 19 years old, met earlier this year as students on a commercial music course at Westminister University in HARROW - the same uni that produced members of The Feeling.

It's not often that a label is created specifically for one band, but thats exactly what happened when Channel 4's Skins' music team heard Paper Heroes.
The band were selected by the shows music team and saw thier song on an episode in April; the first time the show had used an unsigned demo. They have since played at several SkinsLife After Parties. They're working on thier album with Rick Wolkers, who I believe is Muses ex-sound man.
PAPER HEROES will be embarking on an Autumn Tour to support the new EP launch. Skins have made a music video of the band's song JENNY JONES which can be seen on YouTube and which will be available to music channels in the autumn.

Now Skins is looking for more unsigned acts who should post thier bands on www.skinslife.com for possible inclusion in the next series of Skins and a record release on the SkinsLife Records Label.

'Jenny Jones'
Release Date: 6th October 2008

Paper Heroes are Matt Weedon (singer/rhythm guitar), James 'Tomo' Tomlinson (lead guitar), Kieran Elms (drums) and Luke Boxall (bass)

Also local super talent singer/songwriter 'Little M' joined me on the Friday to have a chat and play a couple of acoustic tracks for us.

 Little M

Little M started writing songs in her teens and has developed her own delicate style of acoustic country, influenced by a broad range of artists such as Gillian Welch, John Martyn & Rob Lamothe. Her combination of her effortlessly pure voice with down to earth lyrics & heart-warming songs are quickly winning the hearts of both fan and industry alike.

Her songs tread heavily on her own life experience and her raw, naked emotion is simply delivered over fragile arpeggios & swelling chords. It is this winning combination that gently smoulders through her live sets.

She is performing @ Murpheys Sports Bar on 5th October & November 2nd. For more information call 01277 212860.

On the alternative news this week myself and stephen (with a p) spoke about Police chiefs in Romania who's getting sexy ID photos and can't deal with it,
the guy with 86 wifes (thats 86 mother in laws). We tried to answer the question - 'if my sister gets married what relation would that girl be to me?' The lying chinese guy who got hit by lightening for lying to his neighbour. It didnt go through his head. Was he wearing wet look gel? and the guy who survived a fall from his apartment block (15 stories) because of his untidy neighbours and why I havent slept in a bed for 3 weeks solid. "Im the needle in the groove that makes you move!"

And the biggest local news story of the week was the BILLERICAY'S flagship dragonboat race was sensationally cancelled after poisonous algae was found thriving in the Lake Meadows water.

The second annual Dragonboat Race, expected to attract more than 6,000 people and raise more than £10,000 for local charities, was called off at the eleventh hour by Basildon District Council after advice from Environment Agency officials.

The organiser, Billericay Rotary Club, said it was bitterly disappointed at the news, which has left the organisation more than £3,000 out of pocket due to early costs, including the printing of 10,000 programmes.

That is all x

Drive in association with Mizu Noodle Bar, Brook Street, Brentwood, every weekday between 3pm and 7pm.
