Body Talk - 16th September

Lots of chat tonight about how you can keep yourself fit and healthy using the herbs from your kitchen and the plants in the hedgerows.

Cloves, oregano, cinnamon, ginger and turmeric are great antioxidants and have the ability to slow ageing, protect against heart failure, strokes, Alzheimers, diabetes and a host of other illnesses. Chillis contain an ingredient that has been found to make cancer cells 'commit suicide'.

Rose hips, blackberries, sloes and hawthorn. All found in our hedgerows and sometimes in the garden. All can be harvested and put to good use. Lovely syrups can be made and used as a tonic for the whole system.

Bad news for crisp eaters. It has now been found that due to the high temperatures used when cooking, the oil changes its chemical compound into something which is known to cause cancer. It has long been known that fried foods aren't good for you, now it's not just the fat content that is the issue, it's what happens to the fat in the process. Stay away from junk food as much as possible and stick to fresh fruit and veg.
