On the twelth day of Christmas

On the 12th day of Christmas...

Monday Classics played music from J S Bach to Jan Hammer, and tons in between.

We welcomed our first guest to the show, and many thanks to Tim Brockington,
Chairman of the Essex Chamber Orchestra for coming in to tell us about the
history and development of this ensemble, and for introducing us to the music
that they will be playing this coming Sunday at 7.30 in their concert at
Great Waltham Church, nr Chelmsford.

The programme includes the Egmont Overture - Beethoven, Symphony no 25 in G
minor - Mozart, 'Larch Trees' - Malcolm Arnold, 'Dances of Galanta' - Kodaly.

It promises to be a great concert; there are more details
in the Phoenix FM Classical Events Guide, further down the page.

Back to the music then, here's what we listened to tonight:

'Crockett's Theme' - Jan Hammer

'Vivace' from Concerto for 2 violins - J S Bach

Composer of the Month for January 2009: Edward Elgar
'Allegro di Molto' from the Enigma Variations

'Menuetto' from Symphony 25 - Mozart

'Allegro con moto' from Dances of Galanta'- Kodaly

'Aurora' - Mike Oldfield

The 7.30 Wind down
'Pied a l'air' from Capriol Suite - Peter Warlock
'In the bleak mid winter' - Harold Darke
sung by the Lincoln Cathedral Choir, tenor soloist: Malcolm Hoddinott

'Storms in Africa' - Enya

The Film Classic at 7.45'On earth as it is in heaven' from 'The Mission' - Ennio Morricone

'Amen' from 'The Messiah' - G F Handel

'Finale' from Enigma Variations - Edward Elgar

I actually stole 4 seconds of Jules' show to finish the Elgar, so Monday Classics
owes 'Four days 'til the weekend' those 4 seconds back at some point!

Well, it seems that Christmas 2008 is finally over, so time for one more
'Happy New Year' from Monday Classics. I look forward to playing lots more
of the greatest classical hits from across the centuries in 2009.
