From Pachelbel to 'The Farm'

Pachelbel to 'The Farm', and everything in between...

That was Phoenix Monday Classics on 12th January 2009

This week we heard music from the 17th Century all the way up to
new sounds for 2009 in the classical chart.

We talked about George Frederick Handel, as this year is the 250th
anniversary of his death, hearing the famous 'Zadok the Priest',
which is used as the anthem for UEFA Champions League.

The Phoenix FM Classical Events Guide continues to grow, featuring
concerts all over the Essex area - keep reading below...

The music mix went like this:

'Altogether Now' (the Classical Mix) - The Farm

'Zadok the Priest' - G F Handel

'Prelude' from 5 Bagatelles for Clarinet and Orchestra - Gerald Finzi

'WN' from the Enigma Variations - Edward Elgar

'Let it be' arranged by the Salvation Army Band

1st movt from 'Winter' (from the Four Seasons) - Vivaldi

The 7.30 Wind Down

'Ascent' - Tyler Rix

'You raise me up' - Russell Watson

3rd Movement from Piano Concerto in B flat minor - Tchaikovsky
(not the first movt, as I said!)

The Film Classic

Theme to 'Back to the Future' - Alan Silvestri

Final movt from The Organ Symphony - Saint-Saens

On the next Monday Classics on 19th January, I will be joined in
the studio by Christine Gwynn. Christine directs the Valentine Singers
and the Writtle Singers, to name but two, and is a busy freelance musician
and teacher who makes it her aim to encourage everyone to take part
and enjoy different activities. She will be talking about her work with
choirs, and letting us know of some events that we can get involved in.
That's next Monday from 7pm - don't miss it!

Have a good week.
