'Blue' Monday Classics

Twas Monday Classics for 'Blue Monday' - the most depressing day of the year, apparently...
but not on Monday Classics...

It was great to be joined in the studio by Christine Gwynn, Director of many a local
musical ensemble, specifically to talk about her work with the Valentine Singers,
the Writtle Singers and Arbitus Music.

Christine is well known in the Phoenix FM region for her inspirational concerts and
workshops, and we talked about the forthcoming Singing Day in Barkingside THIS Saturday -
24th January. Details: www.valentinesingers.org

We chatted about the 60-strong Valentine Singers and the smaller Writtle Singers:
www.writtlesingers.org and her other group, Arbitus Music: www.arbitusmusic.net

Christine left the studio to the sound of the Valentine Singers singing Psalm 23 by
Howard Goodall (known to you and me as the theme tune for 'The Vicar of Dibley'),
she had 20 minutes to get to her next rehearsal!

The playlist for tonight went as follows:

'Anywhere is' - Enya

'Awake the Harp' - from Haydn's Creation

'The Lord is my shepherd' - Psalm 23 - Howard Goodall

'Chanson de Matin' - Edward Elgar (Composer of the Month)

'Bransles' - from Capriol Suite - Peter Warlock

The 7.30 Wind Down
'Highland Cathedral' - The Band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards

'Into the West' - Will Martin

'Concerto' to Cantata BWV35 - J S Bach

The Film Classic
'The Magnificent Seven' (Main Theme) - Elmer Bernstein

'Gigue'(from Orchestral Suite in D) - J S Bach

'Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 in D' - Edward Elgar (Composer of the Month)

Join me on 26th January for Monday Classics at 7pm when I will be joined by
Michael Frith, pianist, who will tell us about a special new series of concerts
at All Saints Church, Doddinghurst.

In the meantime, take care, have a good week
