The Monday Classics Music List

After the snow left, Monday Classics returned to the mighty Phoenix FM
as the rain and floods came.

From the safety of the Baytree Centre, the sound of Monday Classics
wentlike this:

One & One - Robert Miles

Allegro Assai from Symphony 39 - Joseph Haydn
(Composer for the Month for February 2009)

Allegro Assai from Violin Concerto in A minor - J S Bach

You're so cool - Tyler Rix

Ave Maria - Katherine Jenkins

Molto Agitato - Prelude op 28 no 22 - Chopin

The Wind Down
Reverie - Debussy
You Raise me up - The Salvation Army Band

Mock Morris - arr Percy Grainger

The Film Classic
ET - John Williams

Allegro Con Brio (Movt 4) - Symphony no 7 in A - Beethoven

We had a couple of looks at the Phoenix FM Classical Events Guide, which I
am going to post alongside this, rather than in it, as it will be easier for
you to find it and me to update it.

We talked about a couple of new artists for 2009 - Tyler Rix (16), the saxophonist
and Faryl Smith (13) the soprano, and her £2.3 million contract.

In 'the good and the bad' from the world of Classical Music, there was the bizarre
story of two violinists from the Moscow Virtuosi Orchestra being mugged, possibly
as part of a coordinated attempt to stop performances by this noted orchestra
And, congratulations to Tianwa Yang (Violin) and Markus Hadella (Piano) for winning
the Best Chamber Music Award at the 2008 Top 10 Hi-Fi Album Award Ceremony presented
by Radio Guangdong in China.

Zong on the email correctly identified the music I read the events guide over each week.
It is written by Gustav Holst, from The Planets, also named Thaxted in hymn books, so
there's your Essex connection. A Phoenix FM mug shall be winging its way to Zong shortly!

And it was happy birthday to John Williams - we heard the ET Soundtrack at 7.45
and also to Monday Classics friend, and Phoenix presenter Mark Reed too.

Next week, our guest is Clare Greenwood, from the Chelmsford Ballet Company, to talk
to us about their forthcoming performance of Sleeping Beauty

See you next week - snow, rain, what next? Take care. Ed
