Easter Monday Classics

Easter Monday Classics

It was business as usual at Phoenix, including your Monday Classics. Music tonight from Handel to Genesis, and everything in between.

The playlist tonight featured 2 works by the Baroque composer George Frederick Handel. Today is the 200th Anniversary of the 1st performance of 'The Messiah' from which we heard 'Worthy is the Lamb' and 'Amen', and tomorrow is the 250th Anniversary of Handel's death.

I introduced the Phoenix FM Young Classical Musician 2009 competition - this will be in September; full details on the front page of Phoenix FM website,
So,  if you are between 11 and 18,  play a classical instrument or sing in a classical style, get practising, and watch the website...
YOU will be able to register online from 1st May 2009. Stay tuned to Monday Classics at 7pm and The Sunday Sound from 4pm for more information on this.

The Music went like this:

The Non-Classical ClassicInvisible Touch (1986) - Genesis

Final from Concerto Grosso Op.3 no.2 - George Frederick Handel

The LP
The Capriol Suite - Peter Warlock (Basse Danse/Pavane/Tordion/Bransles/Pied-en-l'air/Mattachins)

Join Monday Classics next week at 7pm for live music in the studio from Emily Robins. Emily will be singing the classic song 'Panis Angelicus', which led her to the finals of the Brentwood's Got Talent.

See you next time for that, in the meantime, stay happy!
