Mr Kevin Lafferty, Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon

Our guest on Body Talk this week was Mr Kevin Lafferty who is one
of the Consultant General and Vascular Surgeons at Spire Hartswood
Hospital.

With the summer on its way and all you ladies wanting to “air
your legs”, he spoke about varicose veins and why they affect
20% of the population. Kevin explained who tends to get them,
why they can be painful, whether they can be prevented and what
are the latest treatments to do away with them.

Some of the questions we covered were;

What does a vascular surgeon actually do?

Is lifestyle a factor in whether you may get varicose veins?

What are the other factors and what type of people tend to suffer?

Is there anything you can do to prevent them, or to prevent them getting worse?

What happens if you leave varicose veins untreated?

What are the different treatments available and how successful are they?
