Classical Brit Awards and Bank Holiday Chillout

The Classical Brit Awards 2009 & the Bank Holiday Chill-Out Show.

On our classical show on Monday 18th May, I reviewed the Classical Brit Awards
 - these had taken place at the Royal Festival Hall the previous Thursday evening.

The playlist on Monday Classics included music played by the winners of these categories:

Female Artist of the Year - Alison Balsom
(Haydn Trumpet Concerto)

Male Artist of the Year - Gustavo Dudamel

Composer of the Year - Howard Goodall
(Eternal Light - Requiem)

Young Classical Performer - Alina Ibragimova

Soundtrack of the year composers - Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard
(Dark Knight)

Critics Award - Sir Charles Mackerass/Scottish Chamber Orchestra
(Mozart Symphony no. 38)

NS&I Album of the Year - The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards: Spirit of the Glen
(Highland Cathedral)

Lifetime Achievement in Music - Jose Carrereas

Monday 25th May was another bank holiday (must be the last one for a bit), and as the weather broke
at exactly 7pm we heard music from:

Freiheit - keeping the Dream Alive (starting with the classic line "Tonight the rain is falling")

Alla Siciliana (Concerto in F) - G F Handel

Downland Suite - John Ireland

Air from Orchestral Suite no 3 - J S Bach

The Lord is my shepherd (Psalm 23) - Howard Goodall
