Drive / June15th -19th, 2009

An absolutely packed week on Drive kicked off with an interview I'd been waiting for since the news was announced in the national press.  The luckiest boy in the world, 13-year-old Harry spoke to Phoenix 98 FM on his birthday about his new job.  You can keep your tending of an island in Australasia; the best job in the world is Harry's, namely that of Chief Sweet Taster for Swizzels Matlow! The Billericay boy was sent SIX sacks of sweets just for the big day by Mr. Matlow himself, and revealed how not only does he get free sweets currently in the shops, but he gets to approve and rate new prototype sweets....he also told us how each door at the swizzels Matlow factory is for a different sweet...I was so jealous - I wanna go to the drumstick room!!

As if that wasn't enough, I also spoke to David Holmes, Chief Executive of the B.A.A.F (British Association of Adoption and Fostering- www.baaf.co.uk ) about the 3,000 children who are out there waiting to be adopted and welcomed into a family at any one time.  We spoke about the process and how anyone who is interested in adopting could get involved via the website.

On Thursday, ahead of their summer Concert, George (the nonagenerian cornet-player!) and Malcolm from the Thundersley Brass Band popped in for a chat and a cup of tea ahead of playing that very night.  We spoke about how challenging and demanding it can be playing in a 32-piece brass band, and George spoke of his love of playing in such a fantastic band of friends and colleagues for several decades!

On Friday, I said 'Bonjourno' to Francesco ahead of The Italian Market coming to Brentwood, providing the Baytree Centree with a superb selection of Italian, meat, fruits (getting hungry now), cheeses, salads, olives and other tempting fresh produce! Was this a good idea at dinner-time?  Possibly not, all it did was make me want to go straight away!! But it was a lovely chat, and I was sad to say Ciao to Francesco, off on his travels again, to return to Brentwood very soon we hope.

Featured Track this week was the rarity from Barenaked Ladies, Shoebox.  We span it like it was 1994 all over again!!! Next week, Wimbledon starts - will it be a case of Game, Set & Match?!
