Howard Wallace Chorale

Monday Classics - 29th June 2009

My guest tonight was Kay Freeman from the Howard Wallace Chorale here in Brentwood.

'Making Friends, Making Music' is the slogan of this large, friendly Chorale. Founded in 1980 by Howard Wallace, the chorale is the result of his dream to make lighter, popular music available to audiences in a full-bodied choral style. In this instance he has composed many arrangements for the choir from a variety of music which has pleased both audiences and members. Over the years the chorale has become well-known for its wide range of music and is an established part of the music scene of Brentwood and district with some 90 singers.

It's 25th anniversary completed in July 2005 with the retirement of its founder, Howard Wallace's legacy remains. Tim Rhys-Morgan has taken over the helm as Musical Director and the choir has continued to progress from strength to strength. Popularity with the public has meant that recently concerts have sold out!

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings at 7.45pm, at Shenfield School, Oliver Road, Shenfield in preparation for a busy schedule of concerts.

Although sight-reading is not essential, enthusiasm and commitment are most important. More men would be particularly welcome to balance our soprano and alto voices.
