Drive / July 6th-10th, 2009

This week on Drive, the Ashes got underway, in the original setting of Cardiff.   We followed the fortunes of England's batsman (not too bad) and bowlers (really quite bad) as they struggled against the Aussies in the opening test.

Also, all week we were getting the unemployed in Essex back to work, offering tips and practical help on: Returning to work following Maternity Leave, What to do following a Sacking, How to move on post-Redundancy and much more.

In 90's vs. 00's, Work Experience Holly and I had varied results in the early and middle parts of the week, before a thrilling climax on Friday's show :-

Work Experience Holly (00's) VERSUS Paul '90's kid' Seaton:

Round #1 - Best Book Series

00's = Harry Potter - 61% - 39%  90's.  HOLLY WINS

Round #2 - Best Film Series

00's = Pirates of the Caribbean 60% - 40%.  The Matrix Trilogy 90's.  HOLLY WINS

Round #3 - Best Sitcom

00's = The Inbetweeners 37% - 63% Only Fools and Horses.  PAUL WINS

Round #4 - Best Musical Theatre

00's = Lord of the Rings : The Musical 12% - 88% Les Miserables.  PAUL WINS!

Round# 5 - Best Comeback Ever

00's = Led Zeppelin (2007) 64% - 36% John Travolta in Pulp Fiction (1996)...HOLLY WINS!

Holly became the 2nd person to beat me, and left me grappling for a foothold in 90's vs. 00's!

Also this week, I spoke to Bart Kent about his amazing life, firstly in the Royal Navy, before becoming a Creative Design specialist in London's thriving West End in the retail trade, before his involvement with Brentwood Photography Club.  Until the 21st of July, Bart has a stunning collection of very cheap, beautifully framed work on display for purchase in Brentwood Library.  It really is an incredible collection of pictures on the subjects of Children, Churches, Landscapes, 1940's, and the infamous and highly original 'Creation' pieces, with suggestive titles for the viewer to identify the meaning of in the still-life photography of each individual photograph.

As well as reporting on many local events, I spoke at length on Wednesday on the stunning performance I witnessed on Tuesday evening at the Brit Oval. The Duckworth Lewis Method performed their entire 2009 album of the same name, bringing Cricket-Pop to life in spectacular, melodic fashion!
