'Houston, we've HAD a problem'

Did you know that the quote we hear as 'Houston we HAVE a problem' is incorrect - the accurate version uses the past tense! Now you know!

From the world of classical music this week....

Following the sad news of the death of Sir Edward Thomas Downes, Monday Classics paid tribute to the life of an amazing musician and conductor.

Sir Edward had a 40 year relationship with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, and we heard two recordings of him conducting Russian music, which was one of his particular talents.

With news of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop having been working on a classical project, the show tonight started with another MJ 'classic' combining the music of Verde with his more familiar r&b/pop style.

And, of course, with today being the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 arriving on the moon, what other Film Classic could I pick than the Apollo 13 soundtrack by James Horner.

The last word this week went out to the family of French late19th century composer Gabriel Faure who have discovered another piano duet by their ancestor, and sold it for £20,000. Nice work if you can get it!

And we had a fly through the Phoenix FM Classic Events guide:

Based on the Gospel according to St Matthhew, Godspell includes dramatised versions of several well-known parables, interwoven with songs such as 'Day by Day', 'Prepare Ye' and 'All Good Gifts'. It is something more than a series of Bible stories - it is a true celebration of the family of man.
