Football is Back

In this weekend's Saturday Kickabout we had all of the latest sports news at the start of the Football League season. Of the Essex league sides, Colchester had the most to celebrate as they beat newly relegated Norwich at Carrow Road 7-1. Southend threw away a 2-0 lead at half-time, drawing with Huddersfield 2-2 at the final whistle. Huddersfield were down to ten men by the end of the match as Michael Collins was sent off in the 83rd minute.
Leyton Orient traveled to Bristol Rovers and won 2-1.
In League Two Dagenham & Redbridge came back from Crewe with three points after winning 2-1.

In the fourth Ashes Test at Headingley, England reached 82-5, trailing Australia by 261 runs after just two days of play.
England may have begun with a deficit of 343 but had a calm opening stand of 58 before five wickets fell for 20 in just 40 minutes.

John Walford brought us the latest news at the top of the Shepherd Neame Essex League with Brentwood taking on Colchester & East Essex. Colchester batted first and were 225 all out.
In reply Brentwood were 228 for 3 and won by 7wkts. Individual displays saw Aaron West on 110 not out and Jonathan Walford on 85. 2nd placed Chelmsford also won but Brentwood still lead table by 31 points and there are just four games to play until the end of the season.
