Drive - 10-14th August, 2009, including Freemasons, Charlotte Payne and climbing Mount Everest!

This week, Drive was packed with superstars, local guests and also saw our long-running Football Rumours feature come to a close as the footy season returned in earnest!!

On Tuesday, I spoke to David Bishop and damian waters from Little Havens Hospice ahead of the National Childrens Charity week in September and Damian's incredible charity feat in 2010 which he hopes to raise funds for.  Damian will be climbing Mount Everest to raise money for Little Havens Hospice, which cares for children not expected to reach adulthood; surely the very worthiest cause of all.

On Thursday, I welcomed local singing sensation Charlotte Payne into the Phoenix studios.  Charlotte sang Beyonce's hit record "Listen" live in the studio, chatted about the forthcoming West End Kids 'WEK-Factor' final at the O2 Arena (!!) and then belted out another hit, in "Here's Where I Stand" from the musical Camp.  Check out the full interviewand pics at http://www.phoenixfm.com!

I also made a very exciting call to a real legend in the music industry.  Russell Small, originally of Phats & Small in the late 90's and latterly of the stunning Freemasons, spoke to me just after leaving the studio working on Whitney Houston's comeback material!! Russell spoke about the process of reworking an old classic or working with a new artist, as the boys (Freemasons' Russell Small and James Wiltshire) have recently been working on X-Factor winner Alexandra Burke's debut album.

On Friday, I welcomed local author and raconteur Eric Bartholemew into the studio to talk about his travels to the East and his two books on general release. Eric was brilliant, and told about the power of the tiger, the beauty of Thailand, and his deisre to travel to Australsia. Check out his website - www.distant-horizons.org As well as speaking with Eric, I chatted to John Brandler about his art gallery just round the corner from the Baytree Centre here in Brentwood.
