Bodytalk With Mark Gittos, One Of The Consultant Plastic And Cosmetic Surgeons At Spire Hartswood Hospital.

The guest on Body Talk this week was Mark Gittos, one of the consultant plastic and cosmetic surgeons at Spire Hartswood Hospital. Mark let us know the results of a recent survey that Spire Hartswood did on attitudes to cosmetic surgery. Also, he talked about ageing of the skin and some of the latest methods available to achieve that “10 years younger” look that we all hanker after.

Some of the questions Mark answered were;

Has there been a change in patient’s attitudes to cosmetic surgery during his time as a surgeon? Is it the same in your native New Zealand?

The Spire survey found that a third of UK adults would consider cosmetic surgery and that the power of celebrity is a strong influencing factor for 18-34 year olds. Are more young people coming to you wanting cosmetic surgery?

Looking at the other end of the age spectrum, what sort of demand are you seeing for anti-ageing treatments and surgery? Does the skin age faster than other parts of our body or is it just that it’s so obvious?

What about men? “Male grooming” seems to be an in-phrase nowadays and, so how far behind the ladies are we and will we ever catch up?

Going back to the Spire survey, 78% of people rated the quality of the surgeon as the most important of the decision-making process and 42% were willing to travel anywhere within the UK to get the surgeon of their choice. But, if you don’t have a personal recommendation, where on earth do you start?

The next free Spire Hartswood cosmetic surgery information evening is on Tuesday 15 September in Basildon. Call Shirley on 01277 266 761 for details.
