Drive - 26th - 30th Oct

Crikey - end of October - where has the time gone? Another busy week on Drive saw me speaking to Cllr Karen Sheehan again in more detail about the turning on of the Xmas lights and other events going on on the 28th November which will also be a good way to mark the end of the refurbishment of the high street.

There's a parade, plus stalls, free food, and loads of other stuff as well - plus whoever wins a childrens competition to write a xmas poem gets to turn on the xmas lights with the mayor - drop off your entries to the council - under 10s only need apply.

Fancy dress is also encouraged - 40's themed or xmas - for details on what Brentwood council are planning visit - www.brentwood.gov.uk

On Wednesday spoke to friends of Phenix FM Stereo Decade who were supporting the Rileys at the Shepherds Bush Empire - they're a bunch of guys who do what most of us think of doing at school or college - getting a band together, writing a few songs, putting on a few gigs, but they seem to have done it a lot quicker than most of us would have attempted. They were very pleased with their big tour bus which has give them a sense of a proper tour feel as well - their new single "Slow Down" is really quite good - it's got two different bits to it really, one the verse sounds a lot different, quite spikey to the chorus - anyway, check it out at www.myspace.com/stereodecade

Also last Friday spoke to new Liverpool bound Sound of Guns - they've released a new EP Elementary of Youth, and it's a lot different to how other Liverpool bands sound (stereotypically I suppose), bands like the LA's, Coral, Zutons etc. - these sound a lot more anthemic - Coldplay-ish? (that's a compliment). They also informed us their pre-gig ritual is a few beers and lots of press ups. They've had many rave reviews, have played 4 times at Glastonbury this year, and have been getting praise from DJs everywhere.

But check them out for your good selves at www.myspace.com/soundofguns
