Body Talk - 12th Jan

It's great to be back on Body Talk again. I'm looking forward to giving you all of the latest health tips to keep you and your body in top shape. Lots of interesting guests too.

Tonight I kicked off with some top nutritional tips. Try jacket potatoes with baked beans. Low GI foods such as these help to keep you feeling fuller for longer, and release energy more slowly. Try and avoid drinking tea, coffee or hot chocolate with your meals, as these reduce the body's ability to absorb iron. Carrots and tomatoes have been linked with cancer preventing properties. Try to avoid foods that are processed as they don't have the nutritional value of fresh fruit and veg.

My guest tonight was Patricia Chalkley, Wellbeing Therapist. We chatted about the project that we are currently becoming involved with, The Warrior Programme. This is a charity set up to help ex-servicemen and women. It can be difficult adjusting to life as a civilian after spending most of your life in the forces. Especially for those who have been in war torn territory. The scars are emotional as well as physical. This charity was set up to help these people, who have very little assistance from any other source. With regular programmes of a wide range of different therapies this charity has so far helped over 200 people to adjust to everyday life. As the project progresses I'll keep you informed.

If you have any health issues you'd like to raise or you'd like to know more about a particular therapy or treatment, let me know.
