Body Talk - 2nd February

This week's guest was Dr Rudy Capildeo. He is one of the consultant neurologists at Spire Hartswood Hospital who diagnose and treat brain disorders. We talked about headaches of all types; from tension headaches to full blown migraine.

The causes of migraine really aren't that straight forward, as many sufferers will know. It is commonly thought that foods such as cheese or chocolate can cause them. Apparently, these food cravings are just another symptom. Dr Capildeo explained that a migraine can start many days before the actual headache sets in. He described it as an electrical storm in the brain, after the storm comes the headache. So it's the storm that causes the cravings. Other triggers can be fluorescent lighting, tv screens or stress.

To find out what's going on in the brain during a headache, Spire Hartswood have the wonderful MRI scanner, so you can actually see the changes that take place.

There is so much more to migraine than a simple headache. There is no need to continue suffering, a consultation with Dr Capildeo should get to the root of the problem. So if you've suffered for years, don't feel that it's just another headache, with proper treatment, your life could change for the better.

Thank you too, to June who called in about skin brushing. She says she always keeps a sort bristle nail brush in the bathroom so whenever she goes in there she's reminded to give her skin a quick brush. Keeping her skin glowing and fresh. So simple, yet very effective. Remember always brush towards the heart.
