Wednesday 10th February – Wednesday night is Movie night!

My guest today Christine Darby came in to talk about Morsbags and Guerrilla Bagging to raise awareness about the damage that plastic bags do to our environment. The bags that are made of recycled materials and remenants are available at our studios and inside each bag are directions on how to make your won. A few facts to put things in to perspective...

Sad fact: Over 1 million plastic bags are consumed per minute globally

Gut wrenching fact: Marine wildlife mistakes plastic bags for jellyfish and then dies, but the cycle doesn't end there as the body of the animal decomposes leaving the bag to float away and find its next victim.

Frustrating fact: Supermarkets and politicians will take years to sort it out

Happy fact: Making and using morsbags will help with immediate effect

In Billericay Town Councillors argued over the future of seven surgeries with the proposal of replacing them with fewer, but better equipped clinics. A confidential report was leaked to the evening echo last week that revealed the majority of the 1,000 residents were against the plans. Only two Councillors Peter Bowditch and Marian Wilson saw the report and their complained about the secrecy and called it undemocratic. Mr Gandy also raised concerns saying that not enough residents received the survey. However Deputy Chairman Jim Devlin said the rate of response was around 10% which was above average.

Lord Adonis reassured Essex commuters that they would not suffer from National Express being stripped of its East Anglia franchise three years early. He said “The contracts remain in place and National Express is required to fulfil them. There are very robust penalty clauses if the services aren’t maintained.”

There has been a recent spate of thefts in the Brentwood area. Items that have been stolen from cars include: a Sat Nav, sunglasses, briefcase, digital camera, alloy centre caps. And there has been an increase in Lead flashing being stolen from homes.
