Drive - 22nd - 26th

On Drive this week I spoke to  Sue Bottyer who's been helping to start up a project setting up an on-line community archive for Billericay - it's the first time something like this has been done for the town and aims to catch all that 'hidden' history - the documents, the photos, the anecdotes charting the lives of ordinary people that really make up the colour and flavour of what the historic life somewhere used to be like for the 'real' people (as opposed to the prime ministers and kings who we know lots about from history because there's lots left behind to tell us). Now there's the internet, this project following on from a similar successful in Canvey Island, aims to make sure all tese items are preserved in one place for people to see and be preserved permanently on-line. I think, as Sue said, many things they won't even eant to keep, just scan for photos or take details of, that kins of thing, so it's not even giving up history of your own, but allowing others to share in it.

Anway Sue was holding an evening last week to initially set it up by getting hold of the people who can run the archive. They might have been successful on Wednesday getting the people they want, as no technical expertise is especially required, but it might still be worth ringing Sue at Brentwood Library on 01277 264290 if you still want to get involved. It should be up and running later this year.

Also spoke to Kirsten Heydinridge who's setting up drama and art workshops for - the drama workshops at Poplars Hall on Mondays are free, and it's organised by the NHS to get people who have suffered mental health problems to find a new creative way to improve how they feel - you can self-refer or be referred and the workshops start next week on Mondays - contact Kirsten on 07949440326 or e-mail on Kirsten.Heydinrych@southessex-trust.nhs.uk.

Also spoke to Gary Chilton from the Soldiers the male vocal group who are 3 real soldiers of course (but also musical - 24 year old Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi appeared on X Factor and made it through to the Boot Camp stage of the show after singing Lean On Me). Ryan has already served in Iraq and Afganistan as part of the 20th Armoured Brigade and was described by Danni Minogue as ‘gorgeous’. (and she knows how to look good). Anyway, they're looking to raise money for charities helping the soldiers including mainly the Army Benevolant Fund, and, of course, Help for Heroes. Sergeant Major Gary served in the 1st Gulf War and has been serving for 24 years. Catch them at Southend's Cliffs Pavilions on their new tour.

And on Friday I spoke to Carol Kwei of Brentwood's Fair Trade Foundation - they're out next Saturday in the High Street - and they're trying to make Brentwood a fair trade town and get us swapping our usual food and drink for fair trade items - there are lots of fair trade items now from chocolate and bananas to cakes, beer, wine cakes, and honey - and even clothes - find out more getting involved in fairtrae in Brentwood at www.brentwood.gov.uk/index.php?cid=1525

Every day we play a couple of tunes on one of the big news stories of the day - guess what they were this week - Some of the hit headlines this week were!

Monday - Our Winter Olympics Gold medal winner Amy Williams.

Songs were Gold - Spandeau Ballet (tsk), a smidgeon of Tina Turner the Best - and Story of the Heart by Byorn's new band of Abba fame.

Thursday - John Terry and Wayne Bridge again! (oh dear) Bridge saying he won't play for England.

I can't stop this feeling I've got - Razorlight, Bridge to your heart - Wax (punsational)

Friday - er.... Wayne Bridge again - premable to whether he and JT would shake hands on Saturday before they played against each other

Wax again?!

Don't stand so close to me - the police.

And among the strange stories - an airline now offering women's only restrooms on their flights because of the state men would leave them in.

Scandalous!

Check out Drive - every weekday 3 till 7.
