Drive 1st - 5th

On Drive this week I spoke to Essex fire brigade on Monday about the terrible flooding in Billericay esp. Buttsbury Wash, Buttsbury Road - around a dozen people had to be rescued from their cars and some had even removed the warning signs about the road being closed before heading down there and getting trapped. "Embarrassed" was the reaction of the drivers according to the fire service as well as obviously being shocked and distressed in some cases, and they warned drivers about avoiding any water - unfortunately water which loked drive-able through wasn't.

The sun should at least have dried up a lot of the standing water in fields and the like with spring-ish weather on the way, and hopefully it'll be good for the Brentwood half marathon which is in its 29th year. Spoke on Tuesday to the organisers of the event from the Rotary Club of Brentwood à Becket. The run's taking place in two weeks on Sun 21st March and the event has raised well over £870,000 for charity over the years, plus, of course, much more through runners' own sponsorship for their own causes. Over three thousand runners took part which was almost a record for the event. Entries for the Half Marathon are closed but spaces are still available for the Fun Run. It's a great event just to get out and cheer the runners as they pass by so do get involved and line the course if you can, as the runners always say it helps them keep going.

For more details please visit the official website at www.brentwoodhalf.org. The official site of the Rotary Club of Brentwood à Becket is at brentwood-a-becket.org.uk.

Also spoke to Jane and Laurie from Brentwood National Childbirth Trust on Thursday - they have lots going on at the moment - a new "breast friends" cafe to encourage new mums to breastfeed in Brentwood. It was also interesting to hear about moves to get shops in England to have to allow mums to breastfeed in public like they now do in Scotland. There's lots of help they provide to new mums and families about any aspect of parenting, including a helpline for mums who are feeling the pressure. Go to www.nct.org.uk/brentwood for all the information on what they are up to.

Headline hits this week! They were

Mon: The man who won a legal battle to have as much rubbish in his garden as he liked. We played Gossip Standing in the way of Control and Country House by Blur

Tues: The smoker who died because of the disease and had a sign saying "smoking killed me" put up at his funeral and on his hearse. We played "Never forget you" by the Noisettes.

Wed: Whether John Terry would be booed by the Wembley crowd on his first appearance since the revelations he had an affair (extraordinary - and he wasn't really) - Cum on feel the noize - Slade, Where is the love - black eyed peas

Thursday: Original Sugababes launching a legal fight together to try and claim the name as their own. We played That's not my name by the ting tings.

Fri: The met office announcing they wouldn't issue any more long-term range forecasts. We played don't get me wrong by the pretenders and wrong by Depeche Mode

So lots to look forward to next week as well! Hear more of the feature that really is just a rip off of the old radio feature the triple tracker. There are no more original ideas left.

See you next week Drive 3 - 7 for more local guests, news, sport, features, travel and music every weekday afternoon.
