Monday 8th March - And the winner is...

Good Morning, I hope that you had a great weekend and managed to pop down to Shenfield's 1st Ever Beer Festival at the Eagle and Child.  I went in for a quick half with the Parents and had a cheeky half of Phoenix Ale and very nice it was to.  And on Sunday if you didn't manage to stay up and watch the Oscars there is a who won what for you here.  See you in the morning  - Emma :-)

The layout of the roadworks on the A12 between Witham and Hatfield Peverel have been changed. This means that wide loads will not be able to use the road and will be diverted onto the A120 at Marks Tey, to rejoin the A12 at Chelmsford, from the A130.  The slip roads onto the A12 at Witham, and off the A12 at Hatfield Peverel, will also be closed off overnight, from 8pm to 5am from Sunday to Thursday, and 8pm to 8am on Friday and Saturday nights. The arrangements are expected to be in place for three weeks.

LOCAL NEWS

ATTEMPTED MURDER
A MAJOR police investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed repeatedly and seemingly left for dead. Chris Davies was discovered by a dog walker on Tuesday, February 23, at 6.30am, next to a pig farm in Woolmonger’s Lane, Stondon Massey. The 42-year-old victim had been stabbed on his back and arms multiple times. Ambulance crews worked on him for 30 minutes to stabilise his condition before rushing him to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford. Mr Davies underwent emergency surgery and is now in a stable condition.  Police guards kept a 24-hour vigil by his hospital bedside for two days after the attack, because they feared his life could still be in danger. On Wednesday, the day after the attack, police arrested two Brentwood men on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. The 61-year-old and 39-year-old have since been released on police bail, until April 7.

Leading officer Det Supt Liam Osborne said: “This does not appear to be a random attack. I appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw or heard anything to contact the police.”.  The Police are treating the case as attempted murder and anyone with information should contact the major investigation team at Brentwood on 0300 3334444.

A MUSICAL FLOP!
A FOUR-DAY music festival for up to 120,000 revellers in Billericay looks unlikely to go ahead, after the host venue pulled out. Bosses of Barley-lands showground said they were no longer interested. Phil Burrows, commercial manager at Barleylands, said: “PH Productions made preliminary inquiries regarding hiring our venue for a festival. But, after further investigations, we have spoken to them and agreed the ifestlive will not be going ahead at Barleylands.”

Last week Phil Hutchinson, 19, who lives in Billericay, said his company, PH Productions, wanted to stage the event between July 1 and July 4 next year. He also said his company had been working with former V Festival planner Tony Wheeler on bringing the event to Billericay.

Mr Wheeler, now a production manager for events management company Nine Yards, said: “We’re not involved in that. I had a brief conversation with that young man a couple of years ago and know nothing about it.”

The Echo tried, several times, to call Mr Hutchinson, who claimed to be a millionaire, but he did not return our calls.

Meanwhile, neither Basildon Council nor Billericay Town Council have seen any plans or licensing applications for the event.  Ticket companies Ticket-master and Essex Live said they were due to start selling tickets for the event tomorrow. Jon Wiffen, a spokesman for Ticketmaster, and David Eve, managing director of Essex Live, vowed to offer a full refund to customers if the event was cancelled. However, Jim Devlin, vice chairman of Billericay town council, said he would not advise people to buy tickets until licensing had been formally approved and a line-up confirmed.  He said: “I think buyers have to beware.”  - Evening Echo
