  • ROW over plan to scrap pest control -  Pg 9 - Residents in Heybridge Road have spotted a number of rats in their Gardens.  The recent cuts in spending on Pest control announced by the council will mean that instead of paying between £15 and £30 to call out Pest Control it is likely to cost residents up to £120 for each case - Response from Council Leader Louise Mckinlay:
"In setting the budget we had to make some very challenging decisions in respect of efficiency savings.  In January we consulted with residents of the borough through face to face interviews and they told us that the areas of priority were:parks and open spaces, car parks and public toilets.  The pest control service was not identified as a key priority.  Supporting the decision further was data held by the officers which confirmed that where we had received an enquiry about the service only 50% of the cases ended up with us actually supplying the service. We will of course continue to provide an enforcement service where pest infestation is caused by a public nuisance."

  • Gazette pg 7 in brief: In Doddinghurst Road Readers of the Brentwood Gazette have spoken out about the state their road has been left in after the Rubbish Collection.  The Reader says: Our Collections always end up with lots of Rubbish being left behind on our paths and grass verges. Usually members of the public clear it up themselves as the rubbish is left their for days.  Talk about giving free passes to vermin.
