Wednesday 31st March - Bring back spring....Please!

GUEST
Patrick O'Sullivan spoke to me this morning about the Community Play that will be performed at The Queens Theatre this Summer.  This year’s it will be the 10th anniversary production of Down the River and Up the Road - one of our most popular shows by local writing team Dave Ross, Gerry Sweeney and Nick Dawson.  This special anniversary of the heart-warming musical will be performed from 28 – 31 July and is sponsored by Romford’s Liberty Shopping Centre.

The bi-annual Community Play is a great opportunity to get involved in the life of your local theatre and to work alongside the Queen’s professional team of directors, designers, choreographers and musicians.

Whether you’ve got years of experience as a performer or are a complete novice, it’s enthusiasm and commitment to the show that matters the most.

What you need to know:

OPEN AUDITIONS: Sat 10 April | 10am – 3pm

- If you’re interested in a starring role: Please prepare a song and a short extract from a play, story or poem.

LOCAL NEWS
  • A McFLURRY of film crews crowded round McDonald’s, at Basildon’s Festival Leisure Park for a new TV commercial.  Two huge studio lights and vintage American cars could be seen in the car park, most of which was closed for filming.  It was the first of three McDonald’s restaurants to be chosen to feature in a forthcoming advertising campaign. The others are in London.  It was an extra special day for Sel Isikgun, 26, who runs the restaurant as assistant franchisee with her parents, as she used to produce commercials. Sel, from Billericay, took charge of both the kitchen and the film set for the occasion and she said the experience of being on a film set again was fantastic. The commercial is expected to air on TV in the summer.

  • THE fight to ensure 640 workers facing redundancy at Eon in Rayleigh are treated fairly has been taken on by a Euro MP. Richard Howitt, Labour MEP for the East of England, will meet with staff, managers and union leaders when he visits the company in London Road tomorrow to investigate allegations the company has broken European law by not consulting workers over the closure.  There are also concerns among staff and the union the company is penny-pinching on redundancy payments. Mr Howitt will hear directly from union leaders about alternative plans that could save more than 300 jobs.

  • A DRIVER went berserk and pushed a cyclist up against a hedge following a minor crash.  The cyclist, a 28-year-old Billericay woman, was in St Andrew’s Place, Shenfield, when her bike and a dark-coloured estate car crashed during the morning rush hour on Friday 19th March .  The woman was thrown to the ground in the crash, but instead of checking if she was OK the driver stood over her and started hurling abuse at the woman before driving off.   Shocked passers-by helped the woman up and she carried on her journey, but a few minutes later the same man stepped out in front of her bike in Priest’s Lane and forced her to stop. He grabbed the bike and threw it to the ground while continuing his bad-mouthed abuse and forced her up against a hedge. The man was described as around 6ft tall, in his fifties, with a slim build, short grey hair and a small scar on the left side of his face.  He was wearing a dark waist-length anorak, plain dark T-shirt and blue jeans at the time.   Police officers have asked for any witnesses to come forward and believe a number of motorists may have seen the abuse take place as they made their way to work or schools.
  • Any witnesses can call PC Corlett, at Brentwood police, on 0300 3334444.
