Tuesday 6th April - Spring Has Sprung...

GUEST: Lionel Pierres - Fortune

Following up their lauded debut single ‘Highway’, which garnered praise across the board, Fortune kick-start 2010 with their effortlessly infectious second single ‘Bully’ which was released yesterday through Distiller Records. It will already be known to you as the instrumental music which has featured in a TV ad for an electrical high street retailer for the last few months.

Featuring the best the Parisian music scene has to offer, Fortune are multi-instrumentalist Lionel Pierres, a former band-mate of Tepr, Pierre Lucas rocking the synths, Hervé Loos on drums and Perrick Devin, who cut his teeth playing with Phoenix, Alex Gopher and Etienne De Crécy, on bass, guitar and synths. Together they have recorded their much anticipated debut album ‘Staring At The Ice Melt’ from which ‘Bully’ is taken.

Bully was released on April 5th and will be followed by Fortune’s debut album ‘Staring At The Ice Melt’ on April 12th.

Description of their New Single: An indelibly effervescent stomp, from its opening snare beat Bully burst into life like an undiscovered Gallic-pop meets Motown gem that is sure to work its way into your head and all the way down to your feet. B-side manoeuvres come in the form of ‘Mission’ a spiky guitar driven slice of post punk-funk that has become a firm live favourite.

LOCAL NEWS:

Evening Echo:
  • THE boss of Essex’s fire brigade has hit out at the Government’s botched plan to axe the county’s emergency control room. Chief fire officer David Johnson, of Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, said he had serious concerns over the project, which would see Essex emergency calls dealt with in Cambridgeshire. He said taxpayers would be paying more for the new regional centre instead of making savings as planned. The Essex control room in Hutton, Brentwood,- would be replaced by the Cambridgeshire centre , which will also take calls from five other services. But the multimillion-pound scheme, which has already hit delays, has attracted fierce opposition from MPs and the Fire Brigades Union, who claim it would put lives at risk as the local knowledge of call handlers would be lost.

Weekly News:
  • FORMER Labour spin doctor Alastair Campbell breezed into Brentwood to open a new mental health facility. The broadcaster unveiled a plaque to open a new resource centre for the South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust. Health leaders and VIPs gathered for the opening of the facility, based at the High Wood Hospital site in the town. Mr Campbell, a mental health champion and supporter of the national mental health campaign Time To Change, also met staff from the centre, which will house mental health outpatient, day care and therapy services for adults.

  • POLICE have launched a campaign to crackdown on youngsters causing “misery and disorder” for residents by targeting five crime hotspots across Brentwood. After complaints from residents about gangs of youths hanging around and causing trouble, officers, working with Brentwood Council, have brought in five dispersal zones. These zones give police the power to force groups of two or more people to leave. If they refuse, or return within 24 hours, they face arrest and potentially three months in prison. The orders also give police the power to take children under the age of 16 home, if they are out past 9pm. The areas cover central Brentwood, the Three Arch Bridge area, a section of Rayleigh Road, Hutton, Pilgrims Hatch and Doddinghurst. The blitz will last until the end of September.

Gazette:

  • FOUR men have been arrested and charged with burglary following a break-in at Pilgrim's Hatch post office stores. Police were alerted after thieves broke into the store in Ongar Road in the early hours of Thursday morning and stole money and cigarettes, causing more than £1,000 of damage. A short time later police arrested a group of men in a car in the Romford area and four Londoners were charged with burglary.  Christopher Tyler, aged 21 from Prospect Hill, Walthamstow, and Darren Parkins (aka Saunders), aged 28 from Verderers Road, Chigwell, appeared before Southend Magistrates on April 3.  Two other men, an 18-year-old from Ilford and a 23-year-old from Chadwell Heath, have been charged and bailed to attend Basildon Magistrates Court on April 22.  A fifth man, a 21-year-old from Romford, was later arrested and bailed until May 14 pending for further enquiries.
