  • RAMPAGING yobs went on a wrecking spree in Billericay, trashing 16 cars within the space of a few hours. In the most serious incident, a family in Prince Edward Road suffered a total £2,000 of damage to their property when the vandals scratched obscene words on to the bonnet of a Ford Fiesta and a Fiat. Vehicles in nearby Trinity Road, Darell Way, Mons Avenue, Shakespeare Avenue and Davids Walk were also damaged. Witnesses to the incidents, all between 5pm on Saturday and the early hours of Sunday morning, are asked to call police at Billericay on 0300 3334444, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

  • EON workers being made redundant in June have accused the company of insensitivity after being told to train the staff taking their jobs. Call centre workers based in Rayleigh are already upset at losing their jobs, but now are angry they will be required to train staff from other centres on doing their jobs. The work is being moved to other locations when the centre in London Road closes on June 25. One unhappy worker, who did not want to be named, said: “At least 20 people are expected to train Eon call centre operators in certain procedures. It’s awful and totally insensitive." Scott Somerville, Eon spokesman, said: “To make sure all processes are handled correctly and we continue to deliver the high levels of customer service expected of us, we’re working across all our relevant teams to make sure the move to create centres of excellence delivers results for customers straight away. “We understand what a difficult time this is for our colleagues at Rayleigh. We will continue to do everything we can to help.”
