Body Talk - 9th March 2010

Spire Hartswood Hospital held a most informative evening last Wednesday on women's health care.

Main speakers included Alex Edghill, breast care specialist nursetalking about breast awareness and the need to get into the habit of checking breasts regularly for any changes. Also to make sure you have the correct size bra, many problems can be solved just by changing your bra, particularly if you wear underwired bras which can cause minor irritations.

Helen Grove Is a physiotherapist and she spoke about the treatment of urinary conditions and prolapses. Remember to do your pelvic floor exercises! Particularly after giving birth. So many women suffer from coditions that could be eased by exercising these all important but often forgotten muscles.

Miss Premila Kollipara is a consultant gynaecologist, and she spoke about problems associated with the menopause and how to best avoid them, and the surgical corrective procedures that are available.

Mr Rajiv Varma, consultant gynaecologist specialises in pelvic prolapse and incontinence. The keyhole surgery that he uses means that his patients benefit from less pain, quicker recovery time and early return to work and daily activities.

It was an informative evening and an excellent turn out.
