Body Talk - 20th April 2010

Lots of good dietary advice this evening and good news for those of us who like a little tipple in the evenings.

Yes, a glass of red wine a day can help keep the doctor away. A study has shown that moderate women drinkers put on less weight than those who stick to soft drinks. Thjose who drank red wine put on the least weight. The findings suggest that drinkers turn the calories into heat and not fat. Other benefits include fighting cancer, raising good cholesterol, boosting brain power, helping insomnia and protecting against tooth decay. I'll drink to that!

Celeriac is rich in fibre with a high water content. It's great for digestive health and staving off hunger pangs. It contains potassium for good kidney function, and vitamin C for immune system and B9 for nervous system. Try it roasted, it has a sweet flavour.

Rhubarb is actually a vegetable. That could come in handy for the next quiz night! It is also a great source of fibre and also contains vitamin C and calcium for strong bones. it may also help to reduce the bad cholesterol.
