70's Rock Show - 18th May 2010

This week we went from the UK to the US, via Japan & a galaxy far away (sort of)…

We had a strong UK flavour to the first hour of the show this week, with a little international seasoning. The menu began with some heads-down no-nonsense boogie from The Motors & Status Quo, but The Sweet, Slade, T. Rex, The Jam & The Undertones kept the taste buds satisfied. AC/DC delivered us a sermon on rock & Marc Bolan sang about a Metal Guru God…

Ian Dury, Nick Lowe (born Nicholas Drain Lowe!) & Dave Edmunds served us up some good old British Pop Rock, all connected by Stiff Records – Nick released the first single on Stiff & produced for the label, amongst others, Elvis Costello, who wrote Girls Talk for Dave Edmunds.

We heard a track from the debut Japan album, which was bigger in Japan than most other countries & “Television” was translated for the Japanese market to “Temptation Screen”. We listened to the original by the Kinks, but ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic’s parody of “Lola” was all about the big screen star “Yoda”. Another silver screen star, Phil Collins, sang for us with Genesis, who had been £400,000 in debt when Peter Gabriel left the group – they released “A Trick In The Tail” & all went rather well from there!

Detroit born rocker Ted Nugent has released an incredible 34 albums to date & he once guest-starred on the small screen, as a villain in Miami Vice. Ted led the way for us in a big US Rock finish to the show…

Next week we have our special "Should've Been The 70's Rock Show"...
