Eat my Lunch 14th – 25th June 2010

Eat my Lunch 14th – 25th June 2010

As I type, I can hear the England game on television. We are 3 – 1 down and there is about five minutes left to go. I stopped watching after Germany scored the second goal. I do not normally watch football but will watch England from time to time although it makes my nerves bad. I jump up, scream and run out of the room. I do that when I watch a particularly gripping thriller as well. It’s a beautiful summer’s day, with a cooling breeze and my feet resemble that of donkey hooves complete with red nail polish. I know I always mention my feet, I just always walk around barefoot all the time.

When I arrive at the studio, I always talk to Emma Sweeney (The Breakfast Show Presenter 7am – 11am). We have a talk about everything and anything. I tell her all my personal details and continue to talk when she has the headphones on and the music up. I like to share. I love the hand over Emma and I do, last week Emma went into hysterics and I could only just sit there with my head in my hands. Normally its Emma with her head in her hands at my general comments. Best thing is, we do in general, really laugh which is always a great way to start the day.

Check out new album Transatlantic RPM is out now. with your thoughts.

Very lucky to go to the album launch last week. Thank you to Bluey from Incognito for the music and it was excellent to see you once again my friend. An amazing night, great music, great company and Andy Hubbard showered himself in red wine.

We have some great shows here on Phoenix FM and Jazz Funk Tuesday 8pm (every Tuesday) is one of those shows. Excellent music, guests and a superb play list. Check out Graeme Holiday & Andy Hubbard….. sexy….

Check my Facebook Page for the Question of the Day and answer it. Get involved; let your views be known. If you don’t want me to mention your name just say so. All you need to do is to add me as a friend on Facebook or listen at 11am each morning to hear the question of the day then email the studio

I love the fact that so many of you get involved and I have some fabulous (my favourite word that is, fabuuullllous) responses. Some I can read out live on air; others are a bit too rude. Still if you join the Facebook page you can read all of them to your hearts content, good, bad or rude!

Black Umfolosi

Thomeki Dube joined me to talk about the amazing Black Umfolosi harmonic acappella singing group. From a simple street performance to a capacity crowd of over 50,000, Black Umfolosi consider their work to be not only entertainment, but a means of reviving and preserving Zimbabwean particularly Ndebele culture.

Black Umfolosi are an internationally acclaimed multi-discipline performing arts group specialising in harmonic acappella singing and traditional African dance, based in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. The original six members have developed their skills and their organization to a point where the now 18 members provide a multitude of services in the performing arts industry in Zimbabwe and internationally. Compared to the likes of Lady Smith Black Mambazo of South Africa, Black Umfolosi, tour extensively from their homeland Zimbabwe to the UK, Australia, Asia, Europe, Canada and the USA. They have released a number of recordings that feature singing styles of Imbube, Mbaqanga and Township songs. Their dynamic live performances showcase the traditional dancing styles of the Southern African region as well as the more contemporary styles and movements they develop themselves.

The Black Umfolosi 5 will be touring the UK this summer . Thomeki, Sotsha, Austin, Sidingumuzi, and Sifelani are looking forward to meeting friends old and new at the many venues and workshops up and down the country.

If you would like to book the group please get in touch quickly as dates ...

I was joined in the studio by local singer/songwriter Stuart Carr.

In 2009 Stuart met Rhydian ,from X Factor fame, who came down to Rollover Studios, where Stuart is an in-house writer/producer, & was keen to work with him & the hit writing/production team on some new songs. Stuart & the team wrote 2 songs especially for him. Unfortunately Ryhdian’s label had already completed his 2nd Album & the songs were turned down.
Not wishing for this classy song to be left on the shelf, Stuart decided to record the song himself & it will now be released in June & will be available on Itunes.
The song is called ‘Silence Says It all’. After the release Stuart is planning to tour
the UK & Ireland.
