Monday 26th - Friday 30th July - My first week as a married woman

My first week as a married woman and it was a real shock this morning getting up at 6am when I have had the luxury of a lie-in for the last 2 weeks.

This Week I gave you a sample of what you missed at the Thingamagig at the New White Hart in Billericay. The two bands I featured were Sans Wilfred and SHOTGUN HEART CLUB. My mate Pete wasn’t able to come in this week but he has given me a comprehensive list of Sporting Events you can sit back and watch this weekend
.

WEEKEND ENGINEERING WORKS:

This Weekend there is:
No service on the Circle Line between Hammersmith and Edgware Road
No Service on the Hammersmith & City line between Hammersmith and Barking

MONDAY Our very own Interesting and Alternative show presenter Steve Davis and not to mention Snooker legend has backed a campaign to save the popular Billericay station snack bar which is set for demolition as part of a planned £1.4million revamp, to make way for a bigger ticket office.

The Department for Transport has said Toll booth barriers at the Dartford Crossing could be lifted at peak times. The Dartford Tunnel and Queen Elizabeth II bridge handle about 150,000 vehicles a day and campaigners say the crossing should be made free as it has now paid for itself since opening.

Southend United secured a 1-1 draw at Salisbury City on Friday night as the continue with some pre-season fixtures to test the water with their new team. Chris Phillips reports that Louie Soares is certain Southend United are the right club to further his career. The 25-year-old winger, who has impressed for Blues during pre-season, turned down an offer of a new contract at Aldershot to sign a one year pre-contract agreement at Roots Hall. And he is confident of tasting success with Paul Sturrock’s side.

BUS users are being asked to attend a meeting to discuss how a new bus company is getting along. Back in May, bus operator Ensign Buses took over the 81 bus service, known as the Hutton circular. The company stepped in after First Bus, which then operated the service, said it was scrapping the route. Three months on, Brentwood councillors representing the Hutton ward have called a meeting to check on the company’s progress. The review, which takes place on Tuesday, July 27, at Hutton Poplars Hall, in Poplar Drive, Hutton, at 7pm, will give residents the chance to have their say about the new service.

FRIDAY

Pete’s Sporting Events for the Weekend:

So, in the week that saw the 2-year countdown to the 2012 Olympics begin, what better way to wet the Olympic appetite than by watching the European Athletics Championships from the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona, which was home to the 1992 Olympics where Sally Gunnell and Linford Christie won golds. And it’s been a great success so far for team GB, with Phillips Idowu winning the Triple Jump, and Mo Farah winning gold in the 10,000 metres, the first time a Brit has ever won that event. He’s also running in the 5000 metre final on Saturday evening. Mark Lewis-Francis won silver in the men’s 100 metres, even though he wasn’t even expected to make the final. Today, Jessica Ennis gets underway in the heptathlon, and Jenny Meadows runs in the final of the 800m with Jemma Simpson. The events are ongoing until Sunday, with the relays on Sunday evening to finish the competition off.

A few more British finalists for the Atheltics championships today:
Martyn Rooney and Michael Bingham in the 400m, Will Sharman and Andy Turner in the 110m hurdles

www.bcn.org for timetables for today and the weekend, and lots of other information about the championships

Cricket - Essex, who on Tuesday qualified for the 20-20 finals day, are currently playing Kent in the County championship, with Kent on 360-6 overnight. Today is also day 2 of the Test match between England and Pakistan at Trent Bridge, and England are in a good position after a shaky start, which included Essex’s Alistair Cook getting out for a disappointing 8.

Formula 1 - this weekend it’s the Hungary Grand Prix (Qualifying 1pm Saturday, race 1pm Sunday), and everyone will be hoping that whoever wins, all the talk afterwards will be about a great race rather than a fixed result.

It’s the British round of the World Superbikes, taking place at Donnington Park this weekend.
And for a bit of glamour, it’s Glorious Goodwood, it began on Tuesday and finishes tomorrow, so dust off your gladrags and open up the Pimms, and watch the racing in style!

And finally, we’re just one week away from the start of the football league season (2 weeks away from the start of the premier league). This weekend is home to the traditional pre-season tournament the Emirates Cup which takes place at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium. Arsenal are playing AC Milan tomorrow, and Celtic and Lyon are the other two entrants. Or if you prefer your football at grass-roots level, Southend United are travelling to Eastbourne Borough, and I guarantee I won’t know a single player on the pitch for either team! But far more importantly for the Blues, the next High Court date is on Monday, which could see the Blues go into administration and face a 10pt deduction just days before the start of the season. Fingers crossed that isn’t the case.
