70's Rock Show – 28th September 2010

This week was the middle of three “best of” special shows to mark the half anniversary of the show – part three is next week…

Heavier rock pounded the airwaves just after 10pm as we got underway with Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Ram Jam, The Faces & Thin Lizzy, but then we moved into perhaps more ‘clever’ rock from The Who & Argent…

The very British Bad Company provided an excellent link across the pond to the very American Steve Miller Band & some glorious southern rock from Lynyrd Skynyrd. It’s interesting to note that none of the three writers of “Sweet Home Alabama” actually came from the state & the film of the same name was mainly filmed in Georgia! Staying firmly in the USA, we had west coast rock from America (naturally), The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles & the excellent Edgar Winter Group, incorporating classic guitar from Rick Derringer, who will feature in the GUITAR HERO special shows coming soon…

“Free Ride” was featured in the film soundtrack for “Air America”, along with much fine guitar work by a good friend of the show, Bruce Nazarian (The Digital Guy). Detroit born Bruce also delivered the lead vocals on our Brownsville Station track, sitting nicely alongside the driving Canadian BTO…

And time for something a little different – the Collective Consciousness Society, better known as CCS, then funk rock from The Ides Of March taking us to glorious glam rock. Some Blackfoot Sue, Slade, Hello, Mott, Elton, T. Rex, a solo Bryan Ferry & the brilliant Dutch export, Focus. Because the tempo had been so high for so long, Roger Daltrey, David Bowie & a touch of Supertramp brought the show to a more relaxed conclusion…

Be here on Phoenix FM, on 98FM or via the website, if you can for another great show from 10pm til midnight next week (& every Tuesday)…
