70's Rock Show – 5th October 2010

This week was the concluding part of the “best of” trilogy of specials, celebrating the first six months of the show – back to normal next week, or not!

Always loving the rock side of glam rock, we kicked off with what might be the ultimate show opener (“Are you ready Steve? Andy? Mick? Alright fellas, well let’s go!”), some brilliant Bowie, some ten out of ten 10cc & some way above normal Status Quo. Wizzard, Queen & Focus (which is the music behind our brand new trailer/jingle, which you should hear soon elsewhere on Phoenix FM) progressed the show into progressive rock…

And you can’t have prog rock without Pink Floyd, Genesis or Yes, so we had classic tracks from all three! Queen returned, but in stadium rock mode, as were Styx. The Who & Bad Company also performed for the masses, with some Supertramp, Roxy Music & T. Rex mixing it up…

There was a change in style & tempo as new wave & punk entertained at speed. There were a lot of "The's": The Jam, The Skids, The Ramones & The Undertones, never mind The Buzzcocks, plus US stars Blondie & The Knack & local stars Dr. Feelgood & Eddie & The Hot Rods (which is a lot of "and's")…

Taking a breather, as we usually like to do as we near the close of the show, we had the Springsteen penned Manfred Mann classic & the melancholy, but superb nonetheless, Slade…

Next week will be another big show, as we dip into the world of games & listen to some of the songs featured in “Guitar Hero” – same time, same place next week (that’s Tuesday 10pm til midnight, here on Phoenix FM)…
