70's Rock Show - 12th October 2010

Into the world of Playstation & X-Box gaming we went, with the first of two shows dedicated to music featured in the GUITAR HERO games...

There was quite an American feel about the show, but that was more by luck than judgement, starting in the west & south with Santana, Steve Miller, The Doobies, the amazingly talented Rick Derringer, Lynyrd Skynyrd (out of breath yet?), Aerosmith, Creedence, The Guess Who, Mountain & Ted Nugent (one of my favourites)! The worse thing was I forgot to take my air guitar to the studio, so had nothing to play along with. Air drums was the answer...

We got a bit heavier with the film themed Black Sabbath & Blue Oyster Cult (both in the original GUITAR HERO game), plus a little Kiss, Cheap Trick singing of the "Dream Police" & Pat Benatar - the "Heartbreaker". Alice Cooper's "School's Out" was featured in the recent film "I Love You, Beth Cooper" when played from an iPod through a car stereo using an iTrip transmitter - is that a first? We then went new wave…

The Clash & The Ramones were influenced by The New York Dolls (who wasn't?) & "Personality Crisis" came from '73, as did The Stooges - punk before punk! Blondie & The Police were a little tamer, but excellent nonetheless…

Mr McCartney & his Wings ensemble had the top selling UK album in 1974 with "Band On The Run" & the title track is featured in GUITAR HERO: WORLD TOUR along with the uber-successful Fleetwood Mac, while the lovely Heart & the outstanding Allman Brothers both appeared in GUITAR HERO II. Aerosmith featured fairly heavily in GUITAR HERO: AEROSMITH (which surprisingly also featured Cheap Trick & The Clash?!?) & we finished with a couple of classics from GUITAR HERO 3: LEGENDS OF ROCK - the heavy metal anthem "Paranoid" & "The Seeker" by The Who…

Part two of this GUITAR HERO special is next week, so I've already put my best air guitar in my bag & I hope you can join me for another batch of superb 70's rock - it really doesn't get much better than this...
