It was a short week for me as I took a mini break with the presenter of Stage Door, Roslyn! It was a lovely cake filled few days by the sea in Deal, Kent and I would recommend going in the summer as the costal breeze is very tiring at this time of year!!

Weekend Sport reults Nadal beat Monfils in the ATP Rakuten Japan open at the weekend
Vettel took the top spot in the Grand Prix at the weekend, it was a Red Bull one two with team mate Mark Webber. Alonso took third place securing his 2nd position in the drivers Championship with 206 points behind Webber who leads with 220 points.
Button and Hamilton took 4th and 5th positions respectively which is also their position in the Drivers Championship

COMMON WEALTH GAMES Englands Leon Baptiste took Gold in the 200 metres.
Wales' Dai Greene won the 400m hurdles
David Millar - Scottish cyclist delivered a bronze in the 168 KM road race through Delhi
In the mens single trap Aaron Heading edged out the Australian double olympic champion to win gold
Colin Fleming and Joss Rae took Scotlands 3rd gold in the final of the mixed doubles tennis
Archer, Alison Williamson, won silver and finally England will face india in the men's hockey semi-finals tomorrow after booking their place with a 2-1 victory over South Africa.
At the moment we are 3rd in the medals table with 104 in total, 26 Golds, 45 silvers and 33 Bronze, behind India in 2nd and Australia in 1st.

POLICE are clamping down on thugs who carry knives, as part of an ongoing investigatation into two stabbings. Officers in Pitsea and Fryerns have been beefing up patrols and carrying out stop-searches, aiming to catch anyone carrying a blade or other weapon. It comes in the wake of two stabbings in August, on the Craylands estate and in Pitsea, both of which left their victims needing emergency surgery..

Evening Echo OVER 250 cannabis plants were seized from an industrial estate unit on East Hannigfield Industrial Estate, off Old Church Road. They found two rooms filled with 250 plants, as well as sophisticated irrigation and hydroponics lighting equipment which would have helped the cannabis grow. Anyone with information about the cannabis factory on East Hanningfield industrial estate, are asked to call Essex Police on 0300 3334444.

SHOWBIZ
A musician who lost both arms in a childhood accident - and plays the piano with his toes - has won China's Got Talent. Liu Wei got a standing ovation with his rendition of James Blunt's You're Beautiful. One of the judges - a Taiwanese singer called Jolin Tsai - has invited him to
perform on her world tour.

Piers Morgan has announced he's quitting Britain's Got Talent - to concentrate on his megabucks job in America. The new CNN host told a magazine there's no way he can commit to the audition stage in the new year. Newspaper reports suggest Paul O'Grady and Sharon Osbourne are being lined up to replace him.

Goldie's become the first celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing after viewers' votes saved Ann Widdecombe. The former MP treated millions of viewers to a unique version of the salsa - but her performance left her bottom of the judges' scoreboard. Goldie and partner Kristina Rihanoff were left in last place when the panel's scores were combined with viewers' votes.

Nicolo Festa and boyband F.Y.D. have become the first acts to be booted off this year's X Factor. Italian Nicolo, who had said he wanted to be a "legend", received the lowest number of public votes. F.Y.D. faced Katie Waissel in the sing-off and were voted off by Cheryl, Dannii and Louis.

Could the feud between Dannii Minogue and Sharon Osbourne soon be over? Dannii says she'd like to end the war of words between her and the former X-factor judge. She's also been speaking about her sister Kylie's fight with breast cancer. She told us how it affected them both.

Actor Martin Shaw plays an alcoholic actor in Clifford Odets' 1950 stage play, he played down an illness that forced him to withdraw from a play earlier this year, saying it was "just one of those things". "These things happen," he said of the chest infection that afflicted him during a performance of The Country Girl in Shrewsbury in August. "It would have knocked anyone down," he added. "In an ordinary job you wouldn't be working if you felt that ill." The play is now running in London and has its opening night on Monday.

The BBC is hoping to resusitate its viewing figures with the return of So you think you can Dance? which will be headed by ex Strictly judge Arlene Phillips. TUESDAY
LOCAL NEWS
PASSENGERS can fly from Southend Airport from next March. Stobart Group, who bought the airport in December 2008, have agreed a five-year deal with Irish airline Aer Arann. It is hoped the airport will serve 300,000 passengers a year flying to places such as Ireland and France.

Justin Bieber's going to launch his own range of nail varnish. There'll be 14 colours - the first six will apparently be in shops in time for Christmas. The 16-year-old's also got his first book out later this month.

X Factor contestants FYD have blamed the show's running order for them being given the boot.
The group believe appearing first on Saturday's show counted against them because some viewers missed the start of the programme. The five piece boyband from London were left in the bottom three after the public vote. Nicolo Festa is also out - but Katie Waissel won a reprieve
after securing support from mentor Cheryl, Dannii and Louis.

Sade (PRON: shar-day) has announced she's touring the UK next year. The gigs will form part of a 70 date worldwide tour for the Smooth Operator singer. She's been out of the spotlight for ten years, but has recently released her new album Soldier of Love. Tickets for her UK tour go on sale on Monday.

George Michael has been released from prison. The pop star has served half of his eight week sentence for crashing his Range Rover while high on cannabis. It happened in Hampstead in north London in July. George has been freed from Highpoint Prison in Suffolk.

Boy George now wants an OBE to please his mum after snubbing the idea a few years - he told Absolute radio and Take That have been spotted rowing down the Thames near Eton for the new Amusic video for The flood.

After a couple of days chilaxing in Deal I am back for the warm up to the weekend. Happy Birthday to our very own Bryan Powis and if you are celebrating this weekend many happy returns to you as well! Here is what happened on the show:

A PETITION calling for a much-loved station cafe to be saved from closure will be hand delivered to 10 Downing Street. The owners of Bread and Buffers, a snack bar next to Billericay station’s ticket office, will be joined by representatives from Essex Federation of Small Businesses and Basildon and Billericay MP John Baron when they hand over the 3,000-signature petition for Prime Minister David Cameron’s attention on Thursday.

By Emma Palmer Billericay MP John Baron has called on the Government to ensure two aging secondary schools get much-needed cash to improve and expand, despite the money promised to them being pulled. Renovation plans for Billericay School and Mayflower High, both in Billericay, were shelved earlier this summer when the Government announced it was axing the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Brentwood Gazette High Ongar Royal British Legion officially closed after a special general meeting, following the resignation of the entire ruling committee. The decision was prompted by turmoil within the branch, focusing on former committee secretary Peter Richards. Following an inquiry by the Legion into the late payment of funds collected at the Ongar Carnival, Mr Richards was suspended from membership for six months, and barred from holding office for life.

BASKETBALL

AFTER spells in Australia, America and Belgium, Essex Pirates new boy Adrien Sturt has opted to follow in his father’s foot-steps by settling in Southend. The Adelaide born 24-year-old, who stands at 6 ‘10’’ inches tall, has been snapped up coach Tim Lewis. Sturt’s and Pirates’ first chance to bounce back comes on Saturday as the Leicester Riders roll in to town for a BBL Cup clash, tip off 7.30pm.

Pete's weekly Roundup: The 2010 Commonwealth Games finished yesterday with 37 golds for England, 59 silvers and 46 bronzes which put us 3rd in the overall medal table behind Australia and India.

Football - game of the weekend sees struggling Liverpool travel across Stanley Park to face Everton, and it's also the FA Carlsberg Trophy round 1 qualifying this weekend, Brentwood have a local match away to AFC Hornchurch, and Billericay travel to Biggleswade Town, both games at 3pm on Saturday.

Tennis - Shanghai Masters quarter-finals taking place NOW with Andy Murray playing Jo-Wilfred Tsonga. Murray has qualified for the end of season ATP tournament at the O2 following his progress in this tournament.

Rugby Union - more Heineken Cup games this weekend, including London Irish away at Ospreys tonight, Saracens at home to Leinster tomorrow afternoon and Wasps at home to Glasgow on Sunday.

Golf - Portugal Masters taking place in the lovely Vilamoura, with a number of the Ryder Cup stars taking place in that one.

Not a huge amount of other sport as everyone's having a well-earned rest after the Commonwealths!

TV for the Weekend
Tonight at 8.30 QI is on BBC 1 with Ruby Wax, Ross Noble and Sean Lock with the theme of Hanimals (animals that have names beginning with the letter H!)
On channel 4 tonight it is the much criticised Davina McCall: A comedy Roasting - if like me you are curious to find out what all the fuss has been about then tune in but if not there is always House on Sky 1!
There are 2 movies on Friday night that might be worth catching . On BBC 1 at 11.15 Flashbacks of a fool starring Daniel Craig tells a story of a star who has destroyed his career through his headonistic behaviour and returns home for a funeral of a friend and this then brings up childhood memories. At 10.35 on ITV1 American Pie presents band Camp - yes the teen comedy sequel is full of pranks and slapstick, just what you need to wind down after a long week at work!!

On Saturday Strictly starts at 6 on BBC 1 and the Xfactor starts at 7.30. Now that is out of the way - here is what else is on: And there isn't a great deal that is worth staying in for. Merlin is on BBC 1 from 7.45 or there is Dads Army on BBC 2 at 7.30. If you are Wallender fan its on BBC 4 at 9pm and finally to catch up on the days football Match of the Day and The Football league show are back to back from 10.30 on BBC 1

On Sunday there is some good scheduling with the results of Strictly come X factor startin on BBC 1 at 7.30 and continuing on ITV1 from 8pm.
Sunday night after the furor of the talent shows there are 2 movies to round off your weekend - The witches of Eastwicj on ITV 3 and Superbad - a teen coming of age movie - on channel 5 - but it wil be interrupted with news headlines - GRRRRRr
