SingAlong Messiah & The Choirgirl

There is a great concert coming up this Saturday at Brentwood Cathedral. The cornerstone of oratorio writing in the form of The Messiah by George Frederick Handel which tells the whole story of Christ is being performed by soloists, chorus singers, instrumantalists, and hopefully that will include YOU!

David Worsfold, from the Cathedral dropped by tonight to introduce us to the work, the words and the music. His enthusiasm stems from a previous singalong Messiah in the Cathedral. He describes the forthcoming event as follows:

It will be a 'Singalong' or 'Scratch' performance with a rehearsal at 4pm and concert at 7pm. Anyone who wants to be part of the choir will be very welcome, say the organisers as they want to make the concert as inclusive as possible: "We are hoping for a choir of over 150 as we have been working very hard to encourage people to come along and join in. When we did this two years ago we had people from 8 to 70 singing it for the first time and you could see the thrill and sense of achievement on their faces at the end' said organiser David Worsfold.

'The great thing about Messiah is that experienced singers never tire of singing it so that there will be plenty of people who know it well and will be keen to help those not so familiar with it', added Mr Worsfold.

The choir will be supported by a quartet of top-class soloists and an excellent orchestra drawn from the Guildhall School of Music, guaranteeing the audience of high quality performance. It will be conducted by Brentwood Cathedral's Musical Director, Andrew Wright.

It costs just £10 to be part of the choir of the audience with a £5 concession price also available for the audience tickets.

If you'd like to take part, you will need to be at the Cathedral by 3.30pm, you can hire or buy a score on the day, or bring your own.

There has been a big release in the Classical Music world this week, with the debut album 'The Choirgirl' from Isabel Suckling, the youngest musician ever to be signed by a record label. She is just 12.

We heard the single, 'You are not alone'. I chatted to Isabel on the Lunchtime Show at the end of October whilst she was travelling around the UK promoting her album.
