Asda Joins New Year Supermarket Price War by James Sillars, Sky News Online
A growing number of major supermarkets are launching a battle for business - with Asda the latest to join the fray.

Asda, owned by the American giant Walmart, has guaranteed to sell 15,000 grocery products at least 10% cheaper than all of its big rivals.

As part of its pledge to customers, the UK's second largest chain is promising voucher refunds to those who find their groceries less than 10% cheaper elsewhere from today.

Energy Watchdog Ofgem has hit the National Grid with an £8million fine for overclaiming on a maintenance contract that could have seen higher bills for consumers.

Microsoft yesterday unveiled a new range of windows-based products that will run on microchips designed by Cambridge company ARM.  The deal could signal a move away from Microsoft's long-standing chip partner Intel.

TWO firefighters have been suspended and more than 40 others are under investigation for speaking out against fire service cuts.

The Government wants to introduce elected commissioners for police forces who will have the power to hire and fire officers, allocate spending and draw up a crime plan.  The first directly-elected police commissioners could be in place by May this year.

TV MOVIES FOR THE WEEKEND

The evenings Movies start at 7pm on Film 4 with the 1998 Truman show, A man is unaware his uneventful life is really a sham, and his every move is being secretly filmed and broadcast to the world as part of a 24-hour TV soap, starring Jim Carrey.
At 8pm on BBC 3 it's Madagascar with the voices of Ben Stiller, David schwimmer, Chris rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and Sacha Baron Cohen
And if you are lucky enough to have a SKY HD then Toy Story 3 is on their Box Office at 8pm

If you are a Bond fan - Die another Day is on at 9pm on ITV2 and if you are late back from the pub don't worry there is always +1! and it is repeated on Saturday at 6.20pm

Saturday at 6.40 Channel 4 is showing Iron Man, starring Robert Downey jr, Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard.  One for the kids at 8.50 its The Incredibles on BBC 3.
Definately one for when the kids are in bed it's The kite Runner which premiere's on BBC 2 at 9.45.  The friendship between two boys growing up in Afghanistan - wealthy Amir and Hassan, the son of a servant - is shattered, seemingly for ever, when Amir fails to protect Hassan from a brutal attack and later drives him away to conceal his shame. After years living in exile as a writer in America, an adult Amir returns to his home country to atone for his childhood sins by finding his friend's missing son. Drama, starring Khalid Abdalla and Atossa Leoni.

On Sunday there is a premiere for Channel 4 with teen flick angus, thongs and Perfect Snogging at 5.35pm
For all you Sci-fi fans WALL.E is on BBC 3 at 8.30 it is a heartwarming Pixar animated adventure, with the voices of Ben Burtt, Elissa Knight, Jeff Garlin, Fred Willard and Sigourney Weaver.
If you are lucky enough not to have to get up on a Monday Morning then Run Fat Boy Run is on at 9pm on Channel 4 the comedy stars Simon Pegg, Thandie Newton and Dylan Moran -
