Power giant E.ON has said it is raising electricity prices by 9% for its customers from next month while gas prices will go up by 3%.  The firm claimed the move will add 16p a day to its dual fuel customers.

Jewellery group Signet, which owns Ernest Jones and H Samuel, has revealed sales slowed over the key Christmas trading.  Same store sales in Britain dropped 4.2% in the final nine weeks of 2010

Homewares chain Dunelm has revealed like-for-like sales fell 1.2%  in the 26 weeks to January 1st .  The company did not reveal the impact of snow on trading but analysts claimed between 2% and 3% of sales were lost as shoppers struggled to reach the chain's predominately out-of-town store locations.

A COLLEGE is opening up a second campus in Basildon to cater for 500 students.  Seevic College, which opened a £2.2million teaching base at the Icon, by Basildon rail station, in September 2008, is to open another site at Church Walk House, just off Great Oaks, on February 28.

1.     The King's Speech (2010) (NEW ENTRY) The King's Speech has topped the UK box office - taking 3-and-a-half million pounds during its opening weekend.  The movie stars Colin Firth as                    stammering King George the sixth. Firth has been tipped for an Oscar nomination for his performance in the film, which also stars Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush.

Meanwhile, True Grit has wrangled Little Fockers off the top of the US Box Office.   It's a remake of the 1969 John Wayne movie about a teenage girl who hires a drunken US marshal to search for her dead father's killer.  It took 15 million dollars over the three days to the end of Sunday.

Gemma Arterton is up against Andrew Garfield, Tom Hardy, Aaron Johnson and Emma Stone for the BAFTA's Orange Wednesdays Rising Star Award.

Actor Simon Russell Beale - best known for his stage roles - has been given the Freedom of the City of London.  He's played many roles at the National Theatre and the Old Vic, and been in the Monty Python musical Spamalot and TV show Spooks.  The 49-year-old accepted the honour at a ceremony at Guildhall in central London, for services to drama.

Little Fockers star Owen Wilson and his girlfriend are expecting a baby.  A spokesman for the 42-year-old actor and his partner Jade Duell says the pair are very happy.  They've been dating for over a year.
