Profits at soap maker Cussons have been hit by rising palm oil costs.  The imperial leather manufacturer said results in its key British Market had also been hit by competition from rivals offering cut-price products

 

Games Workshop has vowed to improve customer service after staff cutbacks hit sales and profits. Inexperienced workers failed to captivate clients keen on table-top fantasy war games, leading to a 4% drop in group sales to £60million in the 6 months to November 28th.

 

Jane Atherton reports that High risk investments and expensive loans could be banned or forced to carry bold 'wealth warnings', the City watchdog said yesterday.  The announcement by the FSA comes after several banks were ordered to repay millions of pounds to customers who were mis-sold payment protection policies

A British film is leading the way at this years Oscar nominations.  The King's Speech is up for 12 - including in the big three categories - best picture, best director, and best actor - for Colin Firth for his portrayal of King George VI.  Western remake True Grit is second in the nominations tally with 10, followed by The Social Network and Inception with eight.  Other British Oscar hopes are for Christian Bale, Mike Leigh and Danny Boyle, among others.
