LOCAL NEWS

EVENING ECHO, By Antonia Jones

A TAXI driver brought footpath repair works to a halt in a one-day stand-off over a £145 compensation claim.  Stuart Cullum, 36, hit a loose kerb in Ardleigh, Basildon, last August, while parking his nine-seater taxi.  It caused more than £145 damage to a tyre and left him out of action for what should have been a busy Friday night.  He claimed compensation from Essex County Council for lost earnings, but when this was refused, he took direct action to highlight the situation.  The taxi driver, who works for A & B Taxis in Basildon, decided to make his protest after he was told the only way he could pursue the issue was through the small claims court.  Essex County Council is investigating the issue. A spokeswoman said: “Essex County Council is carrying out footway reconstruction in Ardleigh, Basildon.  Officers are in discussion with a resident to resolve an issue to ensure work can be completed.”
