LOCAL NEWS

Evening Echo

A COUNCILLOR says land being eyed up as a relocation site for families from Dale Farm should be turned into allotments.  Tory John Dornan, councillor for Laindon Park, opposes the application for a 12-pitch site on land opposite Laindon Park Primary School, Basildon Road, Laindon.  Mr Dornan said the area, where he roamed as a child, was packed with wildlife and is surprised it does not have green belt status.  He said: “If anything is to be done with the land, other than leave it as it is, it should be turned into allotments.  There is a shortage of allotments in this part of Basildon. It would be the only use that would not be of detriment to the environment.”
