Billericay Town FC - Saturday 22nd September Round Up

Billericay 0-4 Boreham Wood

Boreham Wood hit four goals as a nightmare second half sees Billericay slump to a heavy home defeat.

There was no sign of what was to follow as Billericay made the better start with Jamie Dormer's volley from the edge of the area being tipped over by Wood 'keeper Noel Imber in the opening minutes. Billericay looked the more likely side to create chances, particularly when they were able to attack their visitors on the break

In one such attack a tackle in the Billericay area on Simon Thomas by Danny Kerrigan allowed Town to launch a quick counter attack which ended with Bradley Woods-Garness shooting narrowly wide. Lee Hodges then drew another save from Imber with a low shot. Wood's best chance of the half fell to Luke Gregson who showed a good touch to turn inside his marker before shooting over.

Billericay 'keeper Billy McMahon had hardly had a save to make in the opening half, but minutes into the second forty-five he was picking the ball out of the net. The visitors opened the scoring when Billericay were only able to half clear a goalmouth scramble following a free kick into the box and Michael Cox was allowed to fire home through a crowd of players. Simon Thomas, who looked lively throughout, had a great chance to double the lead minutes later but the Boreham striker headed wide from a Chris Watters cross. At the other end Rikki Burbridge was similarly off target from a Dave McSweeney cross.

Another goalmouth scramble saw both Gregson and Chris Bangura conspire to miss with the goal at their mercy, but minutes later Simon Thomas was able to finally score his first of the afternoon when he beat keeper Billy McMahon to a through ball. Ten minutes from full-time, Thomas drew a fingertip save from McMahon to win a corner from which the unsighted Darren Blewitt sliced an attempted clearance into his own net. Thomas then added a late fourth goal when he twisted and turned away from Steve Heffer to beat McMahon with a cool finish.
