Brentwood Town FC - Saturday 13th October Round Up

FA Cup (Sponsored by E.ON) 3rd Qualifying Round
BRENTWOOD TOWN 0 STAINES TOWN 3

Three second half goals saw Brentwood go out of the FA Cup although the final scoreline did not reflect a good performance from Blues especially in the first half.

Staines have been in great form in the Ryman Premier and are challenging for the league title, and in the end their ruthless finishing was the difference between the two sides. In Mark Nwokeji Staines had a top class striker and his two goals finished off Brentwood after the visitors had taken a 49th minute lead from the penalty spot.

Brentwood had the first real chance in the 18th minute when Steve King’s pass found Joao Carlos but keeper Shaun Allaway came out and blocked his shot.

Wingers Carlos and Lee Noble were causing problems for the Staines defence and Brentwood looked more likely to score for much of the first half. Danny Carroll put Carlos clear on the left and his low cross just eluded the outstretched leg of Sean Thomas.

Staines best opportunity before half time came following a free kick in the 33rd minute. Brentwood keeper Marc Palmer saved at close range from Victor Asombang and Gareth Risbridger put the loose ball over the bar.

The visitors should have gone ahead in the opening seconds of the second half but Marc Charles-Smith shot over the bar from a Dwain Clarke cross

The first goal was crucial and it went the way of the Swans when Dave Sargent converted a penalty in the 49th minute after Gareth Street fouled Asombang.

The dangerous Nwokeji made it 2-0 in the 63rd minute with a great finish but Brentwood came back strongly and created a number of chances to reduce the arrears. Centre back Jon Whittaker was pushed up front and he twice went close. Sean Thomas shot just wide and was then thwarted as Allaway came out and smothered at the striker’s feet.

A superb individual goal by Nwokeji sealed it for Staines in the 80th minute.

Brentwood Town: Palmer, King, Neville, Scotchmer, Whittaker, Street (Paul 76), Carlos, Dafter, Thomas, Carroll (Diaczuk 74), Noble (Wilson 85)

It’s more cup action for Brentwood Town this week...
as they take on Harlow Town in the 1st Qualifying Round of FA Trophy at the Brentwood Arena on Saturday (20th October, kick off 3pm).

Brentwood knocked Harlow out of the FA Cup only three weeks ago and the Ryman Premier club will be looking to avenge that 2-0 defeat at the Arena. If the game is drawn the replay will be at Harlow on Tuesday (23rd October. 7.45pm), otherwise Blues will visit Canvey Island for a Ryman League fixture on that night.

Brentwood Reserves also have a cup tie on Saturday. They play away to Concord Rangers Reserves in the 2nd round of the Essex, Herts Combination Cup. Before then they have a league match at home to Billericay on Tuesday (16th October, 7.45pm) The Reserves beat Canvey Island Reserves in a league match last Wednesday with three goals in each half. Tommy Lee, Tommy Johnson and Trevor Paul scored before half time and Lee completed a hat-trick in the second half, with John Easterford adding the sixth goal.

The Reserves have another home league game on Tuesday 23rd October when Great Wakering Rovers visit the Arena, 7.45pm kick off.
