FA Carlsberg Trophy 1st Qualifying Round ReplayTuesday 23rd October FA Carlsberg Trophy 1st Qualifying Round Replay It was another impressive result for Brentwood who have now knocked Ryman Premier side Harlow out of both the FA Cup and FA Trophy in just over three weeks. Brentwood were without centre back Jon Whittaker for this replay at the impressive Barrow Farm Stadium. Whittaker had been injured in the first game on Saturday, so King moved to central defence with Donovan Wilson coming into the side at right back. Blues certainly had the better of the first half and could have scored in the 11th minute when Danny Carroll started a move that saw Sean Thomas's final pass send Joao Carlos clear, but home keeper David Hogan came out and saved well. Harlow's Leon Lalite had a shot blocked by Terry Scotchmer before Brentwood took a fifteenth minute lead when King rose high to head home a Lee Noble corner. Blues could easily have added to their lead in the next fifteen minutes. Thomas hurriedly shot wide from just outside the area; Hogan could not hold a high catch under pressure from King and the ricochet flew over the bar; Scothmer’s free kick was headed back by Chris Neville to Thomas who headed down for Carroll whose shot was deflected for a corner; from that corner Carlos’s low ball was deflected goalwards by King only for the ball to scrambled away; finally Dan Dafter headed a Gareth Street ball over the bar. But Harlow did get back in the game after that. Jordan Fowler shot just wide following a free kick and James Bunn had their best chance just before half time but Marc Palmer made a good save and Neville cleared the loose ball. There were far fewer clear chances in the second half. Blues survived a penalty appeal in the 64th minute when Bunn went down in the area, but generally Brentwood looked comfortable until ten minutes from time when Hawks substitute Danny Green had two clear chances to equalise. Palmer saved the first effort but moments later a run from Dean Williams opened up the Brentwood defence and he laid the ball across for Green who shot wide from a very good position in front of goal. Brentwood Town: Palmer, King, Neville, Scotchmer, Wilson, Street, Carlos, Dafter, Thomas (Harrisson 90), Carroll (Diaczuk 68), Noble Brentwood Town Reserves also had a good win on Tuesday evening against a strong Great Wakering Rovers Reserve team. Tommy Lee and Tommy Johnson scoring the goals in a 2-0 win which moves Brentwood up to fourth position in the Essex, Herts League table. .
