By way of a small fact Kelvedon Hatch Football Club (KHFC), better known as “the Hatch” has probably been in existence for longer than almost all of the residents of the Village!

The Club was formed in 1920 to enable the local boys of what was then a very small village, to play organised football. The Club continued up to the war when like so many other clubs it was temporarily disbanded to be reformed in 1946. The Club played in local leagues for many years until the 1970’s, when it then made the decision to try and progress to higher leagues. The Club are now members of the Essex Olympian Football League which is Step 7 of the National Football League System.

For Clubs wishing to play at Step 7 level the Football Association have issued a draft National Ground Grading document setting out the minimum Ground and Changing Facilities that are required for continued membership.

To enable KHFC to continue with its’ membership it will be necessary to improve still further the changing room facilities. Architects have already drawn up plans which have received planning approval. The cost of the works will be in the region of £55,000 and the Club will shortly be embarking upon a “Sponsor a Brick Campaign” to raise the funds. It is hoped that funds will be in place by March 2008 to enable the work to be carried out in the summer so that the new facilities will be available for next season. Anyone can sponsor a brick for £10.

In the past three years the Club has invested over £10,000 in Equipment to maintain the ground and facilities by way of the purchase of Tractors, Mowers and Portable Floodlights.

The Ground is located at Kelvedon Hatch Village Hall and boasts one of the best prepared pitches in the League in which it plays.
To achieve success for the Club both on and off the field requires a number of people helping behind the scenes. In this respect we are extremely fortunate in that we have a very hard working and willing Committee. In order to raise funds we have on our radar a Corporate Golf Day, discussions with prospective sponsors, a Race Night, the 100 Club and the Xmas Draw. Volunteers are always most welcome to join us and participate in the activities of the Club.

It is probably not commonly known but throughout the 1990’s KHFC was one of the most successful Intermediate Football Teams in the County of Essex. During this time the first team achieved notable success by way of winning the Essex County FA Intermediate Cup on three occasions, the League Championship on three occasions and many other Cup competitions. Over this period a number of players have represented both the Essex County FA and the Essex Olympian Football League.

The local community are welcome to watch our games on a Saturday afternoon at School Road and hopefully join us for a “pint” in the bar after the game. Forthcoming Fixtures are displayed on the Village Hall Notice Board and on our website. Everyone is always most welcome.
